What's the craziest thing you've done to get a sign pic?  From walking in a tunnel late at night to driving an hour for a pic...share.

An example of a said sign pic...or an excuse to post one:

I only take pics of good looking signs. Long live non-reflective button copy!

For this photo, I had to climb some playground equipment in a park next to the freeway, so the freeway's chain-link fence wouldn't get in the way of my shot. The kids were amused.

The sign has since been replaced, after that part of HI 78 was re-signed as Interstate H-201.

Well, it was much more than an hour... more like spending two days driving almost 1050 miles round trip just to get pictures of two somewhat unnotable Minnesota routes just because they're about to be turned back (if they haven't already been since). I'd probably have done this more than once, too, if only I'd known about some of the other more recent turnbacks before they'd happened. :-/

Runner up (maybe qualifies more for dumbest thing I've ever done) would be stopping on the side of Interstate 35 to get this picture of a sign error resurrecting the six-year-dead MN-361. Only time I've ever felt justified doing this, because A) this error is bound to eventually be corrected and B) I wanted a better picture than a shitty through-the-windshield one.

I don't know about crazy but a lot of effort has gone into photo-clinching a lot of full routes the past three years.  Probably the most haggard route I've done as of late was the one-lane section of CA 236 after it was absolutely destroyed from winter rains this past this year.  I haven't seen a fully open route with that much debris since some hurricane seasons of yore.  I spent a good amount of time dodging debris just to get the 236 shields and the full route for my photos.  Got a cool cover pic for my 236 album though.

I probably have the picture on some key fob somewhere, but after the 65/55 NMSL was eliminated and I was on vacation in the Vegas area with my family, we had drive down into Arizona where the speed limit was 75 on I-40. On the way back, I managed to get my dad to stop on the shoulder and have my picture taken with a 75 mph speed limit sign as I hung onto the sign post!

For me, probably show up at the bus terminal ridiculously early to ensure that I'd get the seat at the front that's good for taking pictures.  Then, hope that the driver doesn't have a problem with me doing it.  In practice, 90% of bus drivers are fine with it.  The joys of being a roadgeek without a car--something that's about to change in a few weeks!
