US 6 east of Spanish Fork

On a recent trip, I drove into Spanish Fork on US 6 and encountered a tremendous traffic jam, particularly in the area where the 4-lane segment merges to 2.

Is that a normal encounter or was I just lucky? Is UDOT looking at upgrading that area at all?

UDOT has built a number of passing lane segments between Spanish Fork and Price.  Topography of the canyon limits what they can do.
