I'm seeing the powerhouses I-495 vs I-405 for the championship.
I have a feeling 294 may win this thing because of the large amount of Chicagoland people participating in this tournament in relative to the rest of the country. Way too early to call right now, but I too would love to see a 495 vs 405 match (two of my three favorite 3di overall, 270 is out unfortunately) for the final round though.

For the Final Four, I was considering changing it to the 2021 March Madness's setup (East vs West, Midwest vs South), but decided to keep the way I have it, which is the 2020 setup. Here are the Final Four matchups:

EAST vs MIDWEST:

I-495 vs I-294

WEST vs SOUTH:

I-405 vs I-285
Indiana: counties 100%, highways 100%
Illinois: counties 100%, highways 61%
Michigan: counties 100%, highways 56%
Wisconsin: counties 86%, highways 23%

EAST vs MIDWEST:

I-495 vs I-294
The nationally known Capital Beltway and Long Island Expressways plays the as popular Tri-State Tollway. Also, there's Boston's outer beltway on I-495's side.

WEST vs SOUTH:

I-405 vs I-285
The west coast's well-known I-405s faces off Atlanta's Perimeter.
The local weatherman, trust me I can be 99.9% right!

SEMIFINAL #1
I'm going with I-294 because it serves my hometown of Chicago.

SEMIFINAL #2
I'm also taking I-405 because it serves the other two cities that I've lived in my whole life (L.A. and Seattle).
Go Cubs Go! Go Cubs Go! Hey Chicago, what do you say? The Cubs are gonna win today!

I just realized an error in my post, I had I-495 instead of I-405 in the championship round, in case that changes your choice.

Two important ones vs. one important one

4. I-680 vs 11. I-610
I feel like in its main metro area, it's more important.

405. I'm a Chicago dude and have voted 294 throughout, but I gotta go 405 here. I've lived abroad for years, and the 405 is easily the best known non-decommissioned American road by worldwide non-road geeks.

In the consolation, 495. The Beltway and the LIE are both pretty iconic.

I have no vote in the other consolations. 680 is, like, the 4th most important Bay Area 3di at best and I have no idea how it survived this long, but I've never driven 610 so I have no basis of comparison. 287 is also like the 4th most important 3di in New York so I can't vote for it, and 270 can't even finish the job in St Louis so it's out too.

plain

I guess you were right about I-294 as it handily defeated the mighty I-495, at this point I'm going with I-294 as champion.

As for the consolation rounds:

I-270
I-610

I can't believe the Tri-State made it to the finals. Probably my favorite moment of 2021 so far.  :-D

Needless to say, I'm choosing I-294 to win. For now, I'm going to pass on voting in any consolation rounds.

They are pretty iconic in the country. You have LA’s I-405 (although I prefer Seattle’s variant as I like the city over LA), Capital Beltway and Long Island Expressway for I-495, and Tri-State Tollway for I-294.

I might participate in this round, as I included the elite eight losers in the consolation because I-270 is one of my most driven on 3di number, and wanted to give the 11 seed Cinderella of this tournament I-610 another round.

I can't remember which of a million Chicago area freeways 294 is, and I've been on the damn thing. Meanwhile I've never even been to a state that borders California and I know exactly what the 405 is and where it goes. So 405 it is.

CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND
As a Chicago native, I'm picking I-294 over I-405.

CONSOLATION ROUND
In the first consolation game, I'll take I-285 over I-495.

I-270 also gets my vote over I-287.

And in the third, I'm going with I-610 over I-680.

I-405 and not just for the iconic LA freeway: Portland and Seattle too

I-495 for "inside the Beltway", the L.I.E., the cancelled Manhattan expressway, and the fawninetyfive that divides suburban Boston from H. P. Lovecraft country :-)

Sometimes, I forget I-405 exists in Portland too for how short it is compared to its LA and Seattle big brothers. Though it gets credit for as the only interstate the US 26 Sunset Highway intersects. The Sunset Highway's freeway portion is one of my favorite urban freeways in the northwest, along with WA 520 in Seattle. That tunnel approach to I-405 and the downtown skyline reminds me of I-376 in Pittsburgh a bit.
