MassDOT just opened bids on a project to replace signs and structures on I-495 from Route 38 in Lowell to the north end of the Merrimack River Bridge in Haverhill.  Liddell Brothers of Halifax (MA) is the apparent low bidder.  Contract duration is 720 days from notice to proceed, which should be issued in early to mid-February.

What needs to be replaced? I go from exits 40 to 46 every day, and everything seems to be fine.

While the BGS' are from the 90s; the majority of the gantries date back to the 70s.

Plus, unlike a number of other states, MassDOT tries to schedule sign replacements so the new signs are installed before the retro-reflectivity on the old signs goes completely flat.
