Probably I-90- I've driven it from Seattle to Sioux Falls, Rockford to Elgin, Chicago to I-69, and I-271 to I-495.

US 20 would be the honorable mention- I've clinched that from Newport, Oregon all the way to O'Neill, Nebraska with the exception of the stretch from Nyssa Oregon to US 95 in Idaho, which is like a mile.

US 191 is a big one too- I've driven that from Mexico to US 163 and from the Utah/Wyoming line to Lewistown, MT.

Probably my second longest without gaps would be US 12 from its western terminus in Aberdeen, WA all the way to McIntosh, SD (1,334 miles).

I've got I-80 from SFO to Winnemucca, NV, from Wendover NV to Sugar Grove IL, and then from the west Tri State junction over to I-65

I-70 from Newark OH to Denver CO.

Oh and I totally forgot US 87. I have driven that from west of Lewistown MT all the way to Brady TX with the exception of that washed out piece near Story, WY that will never be repaired.

If that's the case, then you have I-80 to I-88 as I-80 does not go to Sugar Grove.

Good call. I was last on that stretch of road in 97 when we moved from Geneva to Idaho so my memory is a bit fuzzy! We definitely got on the interstate in Sugar Grove so must have taken 88 to the Quad Cities

The High Plains Traveler

Pretty sure my longest is U.S. 50, from Sacramento to Greenwood MO (just east of KC). That's about 1400 miles, IIRC. I occasionally consider a trip to drive it east to Ocean City MD. I also have long stretches of routes like I-10 and I-80, but I don't think they're continuous.

For me, that would be on Interstate 90

Sheridan, WY to Rockford, IL  1,075 mi
Gary, IN to Elyria, OH   277 mi
Syracuse, NY to East Boston, MA  203 mi

QuoteMaybe this is a reason to plan a trip with the wife to New Brunswick and PEI!

FTFY. (trust me on this...you'll thank me later)

Quote(don't do CHM and probably won't until they come up with some sort of clickable map by which to mark mileage)

Which really won't be any easier...and would require hundreds (if not thousands) of clicks for a user starting from scratch.

My top five:

I-81 - Canadian Border to Ft. Chiswell, VA - 696 miles
I-95 - Burlington, MA to St. Geroge, SC (961 miles) and FLL to Vizcaya (Miami), FL (25 miles) - 986 miles
I-5 - Canadian Border to Irvine, CA - 1,288 miles
I-70 - Park and Ride, MD to Aurora, CO - 1,649 miles
I-40 - Barstow, CA to Nashville, TN (1,888 miles) and Mebane NC, to Wilmington, NC (167 miles) - 2055 miles

US 2 definitely wins for me - I'm only missing across WI to US 8 in western MI. I also have US 6 and 20 out from the Atlantic Ocean to I-75, but that's far shorter of a clinch. Then I have US 11 down to Bristol, VA - about to go get 11E and 11W and possibly 11 in GA - as well as a long stretch of 11 in MS.

akotchi

I am missing about 110 miles of I-95 (Old Town, ME, to the Canadian border)

I have done about 1,000 miles of I-40 between Wilmington and Little Rock.

I can also claim about 450 miles of I-90 between Boston and Buffalo, and another 370 miles between Cleveland and Chicago.

I-85 between Petersburg and the southern end of the I-75/I-85 overlap in Atlanta -- about 510 miles

I-75 from the northern end of the Atlanta overlap to Miami -- about 730 miles

I have significant pieces of I-70 and I-80, but much less than the above.
Opinions here attributed to me are mine alone and do not reflect those of my employer or the agencies for which I am contracted to do work.

I-80 wins this for me.  I have it covered from I-95 to I-25.  I really need to get out west and finish that interstate, as well as pick up a bunch of new counties in the process.

Scott5114

I-40: 1,504 mi, from the NM—TX state line to the I-85 junction.
I-70: 1,170 mi, from the I-470 junction in Topeka, KS (maybe a bit west of that but I'm not sure where exactly, so I just count it as I-470) to The Park & Ride.

Honorable mention for greatest non-100% percentage clinched goes to M-28. I'm just missing the bit from I-75 to the eastern terminus.

My wife plays golf and we've taken golf trips before (including to Nova Scotia), hence why I said that. But we also do things other than play golf on said trips (e.g., in Nova Scotia a trip to the Fortress of Louisbourg was a must).

I don't offhand know exactly how much mileage it is, but I have to believe the grand champion of unclinched interstates for me is I-94.  I believe I have all of it except for portions in the Dickinson and the Fargo-Moorhead areas (I was a kid then, and there may be other pieces I don't remember, but I do remember seeing downtown Fargo) from I-90 in Billings to the I-94/I-694 separation north of Minneapolis and from MN 55 west of downtown Minneapolis all the way to the 80-90 interchange in NW Indiana and from MI 60 in Jackson to Exit 172 in Ann Arbor and Exit 177 in Ann Arbor to US 24 (Telegraph Road) near Detroit.

I believe US 34 is my grand champion on US routes.  I got it between Hastings and the US 281 separation in Grand Island, from Shady Bend Road in GI to the NE 2 separation, from NE 14 in Aurora to L41D in Hampton, some of it in York and in Seward, and then from NE 79 NW of Lincoln to its eastern end at IL 43, with the possible exception of a piece near Earlville, IL  (Somehow, I always ended up needing gas in Earlville, which takes you off the highway and into town.)
MORE FUN THAN HUMANLY THOUGHT POSSIBLE

catch22

Here is my top five, all mileages are approximate:

I-90:

Seattle, WA - Ellensburg, WA (~107 miles)

Sundance, WY - Sioux Falls, NE (~425 miles)

La Crosse, WI - Erie, PA (~733 miles)

Buffalo, NY - Albany, NY (~288 miles)

Sturbridge, MA - Boston, MA (~60 miles)

(Total ~1,613 miles)

I-70:

Dillon, CO - Dayton, OH (~1,266 miles)

Wheeling, WV - Washington, PA (~35 miles)

New Stanton, PA - Frederick, MD (~169 miles)

(Total ~1,470 miles)

I-80:

Near Julesburg, CO (JCT I-76) to near Hazleton, PA at I-81, exit 260 (~1,469 miles)

I-75:

Sault Ste. Marie, MI - Wildwood, FL (~1,429 miles)

I-95:

Miami, FL - Greenbelt, MD (~1,070 miles)

Boston, MA - Augusta, ME (~168 miles)

(Total ~1,238 miles)
