Temps are only in the 50's here, but it's a spectacular afternoon. Brilliant sunshine and fall-like after what has seemed like several weeks of gloominess.

The last couple days here in Tulsa have been absolutely stunning. Sunny, a bit breezy, and highs in the low 80s. And it seems it will stay like this for a while.

They must have, because Tulsa isn't flat like Oklahoma is supposed to be.

Something I found mind-blowing:  Tulsa, despite being farther north, has warmer temperatures year-round than OKC and even Norman.

I'd bet that is likely a result of elevation. Oklahoma City and Norman are at the eastern edge of the High Plains, at a surprisingly high 1200 feet above sea level. Tulsa is only 700 feet above sea level thanks to its location further east right on the Arkansas River.

Interestingly, that makes Oklahoma City the third-highest state capital outside the mountain states - behind only Bismarck and Pierre.

So far this year Laredo, Texas has seen:

-- 198 days of 90+ highs (average annual is 176 days; record highest in a year 223 days)
-- 101 days of 100+ highs (average annual is 72 days; record highest in a year 146 days)
-- Seven days of 110+ highs (average annual is 6 days; record highest in a year 14 days)

With still nearly a quarter-year left of 2022, the number of days in the 90s will keep increasing; assuming law of averages hold for October and November, Laredo could come very close to matching its record of 223 days of 90+ days in a single calendar year.  And still possible for the number of triple-digit highs could increase though not by a lot.

Of the daily record highs last month (September 2022), two days occurred in Arizona, 19 days in California, two days in Nevada, one day in Oklahoma, and six days in Texas.  The average of the daily highs over the last month was 111 degrees, the highest of which was in Death Valley which recorded 125 degrees on September 8.

Mid-40s and rainy again when I got up at 7:00. The forecast today is for a record low high temperature here–the record at Reagan Airport for this date is 56° and the forecast high is 54° and rainy. Supposed to go back up to the 70s for the latter half of the week, so we aren't turning on the heat as it's still 67° in the house. Feels raw, though. Sweatshirt weather.

AQI is over 150 in much of the Seattle area once again. Not much relief to be found in the Puget Sound region.

Temperature is being kept down by the smoke, but we are still 15+ degrees over normal highs for early October. No rain in the forecast.

A cold front just came through here, and the past couple of nights it has gotten down into the lower 40s for the first time since before summer. Tonight is likely to follow suit. As I type this in the bonus room (with lesser insulation), I have a blanket shrouded around me.

Corpus Christi:  95 high (+7); 79 low (+6)
Laredo:            97 high (+5); 75 low (+7)
McAllen:           98 high (+7); 76 low (+5)

As indicated above, temperatures are as much as nine degrees above average; a couple of locations nearing 100 degrees.  Dew points in the 70s makes the heat index hover in the 105-110 range.  Normally South Texas averages low 90s days and around 70 degrees nights this time of the year.
