Michigan Left Inspired Interchange

An interchange design based upon the Michigan Left. No lefthand exits/merges or weaving.

(1) Md. 3 (Crain Highway) at Riedel Road/Waugh Chapel Road in Gambrills, Anne Arundel County (the turn on the south side of the intersection is not shown on Google Maps but it is there)

(2) U.S. 29 (Colesville Road) at Md. 193 (University Boulevard) in Silver Spring, Montgomery County

I know this really isn't what you are after, but it does have some of the same characteristics of a Michigan Left.  Weaving and left-hand exits/merges are present though.

Bloomfield Avenue with the GSP in Bloomfield, NJ is somewhat like it.  To go WB on Bloomfield Avenue to SB GSP one has to turn right on the NB GSP Frontage Road and take a u turn ramp under the elevated GSP to the south side frontage road to avoid a direct left onto the SB GSP frontage road.  Also the NB GSP Frontage Road to WB Bloomfield Avenue uses the same turnaround as direct left turns onto Bloomfield Avenue is prohibited.

NJ 35 and Lawrence Parkway in Laurence Harbor, NJ actually is a Michigan Left set up.  No left turns at all, but the turnarounds are on the side road (Laurence Pky) instead of the busy road (NJ 35).

Yes, a rather unique and interesting interchange.  It must confuse a decent number of people who don't know the area.

It didn't confuse me, but I found it very, very difficult to merge into the left lane on US 9 with very heavy, fast-moving traffic.

Yes, a rather unique and interesting interchange.  It must confuse a decent number of people who don't know the area.

It shouldn't.  While it's different when looking at it from the air, from a driver's point of viwe it acts as a normal interchange with left sided ramps.

Chicopee, MA - I-91 interchange with US-5. this is much closer to the Michigan Left concept as there's exits. The first for (by actual direction) EB to SB, and then after crossing the overpass, EB to NB loops back.

I can think of three interchanges that used to have a Michigan left type ramps, but on the left hand side:

1) I-70 at US 40/US 61 in Wentzville, MO - used to be a U-turn for the WB I-70 to SB US 61/EB US 40, and it might have had one for EB I-70 to NB US 61 movement.

2) I-55 at IL 129 - Used to be a U-turn for NB I-55 to SB IL 129.  Google Aerial

3) I-55/I-70 at Troy had one for the SB I-55 to EB US 40 movement at one time.

For interchanges that have a right side version of the U-turn ramp:

1) I-55 at Arsenal Road south of Joliet, IL:  Google Aerial

2) I-57 at I-24 in Illinois:  Google Aerial

3) I-43/I-894 at 27th Street:  Nap
