Google Maps' new bannered routes

It's sometimes accurate and sometimes not.

It depends on what it is internally.

"1 Alternate" used to show as "1" but with the new Google Maps as "Alt 1". Same with Bypass and Truck.
"1A" and "1B" have always been and will always be "1A" and"1B".

For a road's internal designation, go to Google Mapmaker and click "Browse", "Line features", the segment of road you are interested in, and "Details". If you have a Google account, you can edit it.

(Note: Google Mapmaker does not seem to have the correct "Alt" banners.)

Guys, if you want to see the banners, they are visible inside of Map Maker right now.

Here's a screenshot of they look like:

And the banners seem to be back on the main map now (old style).

Reference routes are back in New York! Check the Taconic State Parkway and the Berkshire Connector. Also check the Garden State Parkway in New Jersey.

I found some ugly banners on the new style Goog. Here's a screen shot to illustrate:

Business US-20 is bannered in South Bend, but the 20 is scrunched into the top of the shield.  :-P Business US-31 is not marked at all.

Click on the map to get a link. Depending on whether you have the new or old style may affect what you see.

I'm getting a normal Business 20. Not a scrunched up one.

I got a normal one that then morphed into a scrunched up one.

I saw the word "bypass" further down the post and thought that was it.

Oh. You probably mixed up US 1 Business in Trenton and US 1 Bypass Truck in Newark. The second, I cannot find whatsoever.

I just came across this "BYP" label today and can't figure out why it doesn't say "TRUCK" instead.  A map that doesn't reflect what exists is a bad map.
