NJ Turnpike exit signs

What are your opinions on some of the exit signs of this highway? For instance, exit 13 has destinations Elizabeth, Goethals Bridge, and Verrazano Bridge. While these are okay, shouldn't Staten Island and/or Brooklyn be listed? I realize that they may not have enough room to put 20 different destinations. I also like the "for" signs, just before the exit, seen here: http://goo.gl/maps/UNhVi this one in particular is redundant to the main exit signs. I hope they restore the one for 7A, reading Six Flags and the Horse Park of NJ.

To get to Alanland you must get off at exits 10 and 13. Yes, both.

But in the real world, wouldn't "USE EXIT 10 OR 13" be more... proper? I don't get the aversion to using the word "or" on highway signs. This is a circumstance where it would be appropriate.
Either that, or drop the word "use", so it's a list rather than a directive.

To get to the Jersey Shore, one could use multiple exits.  Too many to list, and it would vary based on direction and actual destination.

To get to Alanland Shore, the shore is the highway.  And the damn ice cream man is always rolling his cart in the left lane, refusing to keep right.

The NJ Turnpike used to use at the NB exit for Exit 2 the Cape May County Resorts as a secondary guide in their usual fashion only the NJTA practices with: EXIT X FOR X.  I do not know why it was made there as NJ 49 was always (and still is) the fast way to Cape May County from the Delaware Memorial Bridge.  Who would ride up the Turnpike one exit to accomplish that which may be why the NJTA never carbon copied it in 1982 when they added the current reflectorized signs on overhead gantries.

However, the point to this is they could break the exits down by county going SB.  Exits 11 and 9 for Monmouth County.   Of course, all points could be used for the GSP at Exit 11.  Then Exit 7A for Ocean County, Exit 3 for both Atlantic and Cape May Counties.  Burlington County, even though crosses the state, does not have beach resorts as the county ends at the Great Bay two miles from the Atlantic between LBI and Brigantine so it gets eliminated.

NB it would be NJ 49 for Cape May, US 40 for Atlantic, Exits 4 (via NJ 73 and NJ70) and Exit 7A for Ocean County, and Exit 7A for Monmouth Beaches.

Exit 3 - 168 South to 42 South to the AC Expressway, is also a popular and almost all highway.   168 can be a bit slow, but people like it because it's the shortest route.  At least there's a few diners to stop at along the way.

Not US 40 to NJ 55?

That was in the pre NJ 55 days.  Remember it was not till the early 70s when NJ 55 was extended to US 40 from NJ 47 between Millville and Vineland.    At that time I assume that the NJTA wanted you to take US 322 East to Glassboro and then south on NJ 47.

Yes. The old signs had different destinations on the 2 mile ahead and 1 mile ahead signs. 

Philadelphia was also removed from Exit 4 as well, but was added as a supplemental destination, which may/may not be removed when PA's connection is completed.

Whether its 40 to 55 or 49 to 55 was not the issue, it was over 322 to 47 at the time NJTA had that supplemental sign NB at Exit 2.

This discussion brought back a memory for me of one of our early car trips down the New Jersey Turnpike in the mid-1960s.  My brother Tom, upon seeing the signs for Elizabeth, started making jokes, which were directed at our sister Betsy (Elizabeth) - who was also in the car - about how 13 was really old.  To which my father immediately retorted "Maybe, but we just passed over Tom's River.  Get a load of that smell!"
