I-78 is in NYC. Just too easy to see it as a prank thread

I assume he was talking about the extension across Manhattan and through Brooklyn and Queens to the Bronx that was never built, not the New York side of the Holland Tunnel.

Forgot I-95 through the District of Columbia.
Or the missing pieces of I-95 in the Greater Boston area (inside 128).

I meant those too (plus I-695 and I-895 in Philly, as well as I-70, I-83 and I-170 in Baltimore), but the thread title would've been way too long.

Would've been far more effective to pick one and do a quick write-up about it.  As Perfxion noted, too easy to see this as a prank.

I know I'm not supposed to make obvious statements like this, but what you just described would be the most expensive real estate acquisition of any highway ever built, would level the heart of quite a few thriving neighborhoods, and would bring about the end of several historic and cherished park areas.

I know, I know — I should try harder to look at the bright side of things.

I'm sure that's what the people from Mercer and Somerset Counties said that ultimately got the Somerset Freeway shelved.

Except that the route above has hundreds of thousands of people living within walking distance of it, so many, many more people would be saying it.

That being said, I'd have paid money to see the reaction if this routing were publicized as an April Fool's story.  Not very much money, though.
