Don't know what these things are, but appears to show up in any places around the globe.

They are things that people who watched too much 2001 put up because they can't think of anything original.

Someone is laughing and high-fiving his (or her) friends over this.

My thoughts, are it's a joke. People like to feed on people believing in UFO's and extraterrestrial beings, so someone inserts it into the ground. Then in a few days comes for it until another place to insert.

Well, there was a bunch of idiots that thought they could "storm" Groom Lake a couple years back.

Can't wait for this to be another stupid marketing campaign for an equally stupid start-up company.

To drive that in, you need some sort of sledgehammer.  I'd like to see them remove it.

Better yet, why don't someone visiting it give it a wiggle as I'm certain it can be too tightly inserted.

Didn't a few of these crop-up in the Mojave Desert a few years back?
It's all fun & games until someone summons Cthulhu and brings about the end of the world.

I also collect traffic lights, road signs, fans, and railroad crossing equipment.

Yes, hence why I noted that there are some 2001 fans with not much better to do.

The only reason why it has not been removed is cause people are constantly observing it. The prankster is unable to get to it without being seen.

Kind of funny seeing somewhere so close to me making national news...I have an excellent view of Gass Peak when I head to the grocery store.  :D

A few people on /r/vegaslocals posted that they went out and found the monolith themselves before it was removed. Apparently it was in a location that was dangerous enough to get to that none of them felt comfortable sharing the exact location, out of fear that someone else might hurt themselves trying to get to it. If that's true, I'm not surprised that Metro removed it, since it risks becoming an attractive nuisance.

And now...the weather.

I still say it's a prank. The fact the media got hold of it easily states it's a publicity stunt or a person looking for attention and plants these knowing how some people reaction is to mysteries.

You have people out there who love things pointing to extraterrestrial and this kind of leaves that eerie feeling to them for it to exaggerate.

Well, yeah, what else would it be besides someone coming to Vegas to be a weirdo? That's why this city exists.  Just another day in Southern Nevada.

What do you want to bet that if the location of all of them is plotted on a map they spell out "I'M THINKING ARBY'S"?

I don't see rogue monolith installations rising to the importance of an "incident."

Incident simply means an event or occurrence. It doesn't have to be exciting or spectacular or ominous.

I think this is more believable than the Monolith.

Amazing how people will believe in anything, considering the "like/wow/laugh" reaction ratio on that.

The Tesla Concorde video that people genuinely think is real when there are dozens of red flags before even see a faked video is astounding.

(I sadly have a 73 year old former neighbor that shares stuff on FB from this very page thinking its real. He was actually in the military...)
