Was this around the 1930s-1940s? I remember it being a plot point for the 1949 movie White Heat.

As for paper paychecks... I remember when one of the requirements for "free checking" was either mainlining a minimum balance or have direct deposit.

Government would be tolerable if not for politicians and bureaucrats.

That was hilarious. You could just peel the box off and have a cube of ice cream.

The dessert servers at church events figured out it was easier to serve slices instead of scoops. We kids liked the novelty of it.

For me, I remember more downloading the free version for about 6 hours and then having the download fail right at 98% or so.

On that note, anyone other than me upload and download .mp3s from FTP servers pre-Napster days?

Of course here don't count. We could start a flame war on things we agree on :bigass:

Sure. I wasn't necessarily talking about the forum, just society in general. The pedantry on the forum often times makes it a little tougher to remain less than snarky when discussing a topic with someone whom you disagree with.

When an actual human answered a phone for any business and you actually received help.

Or when restaurants sold actual hamburgers. Back then you paid extra for a cheeseburger than a regular hamburger.  Now regular hamburgers come with cheese and to order a good old fashioned hamburger, you have to specify " No cheese" and get weird looks from the server.

Pfft.  Baloney.  Before the Internet, people just weren't exposed to views contrary to theirs very often.  Lots of having mostly like-minded friends and, if they weren't, you'd just avoid political talk.

My mom had three siblings (one has passed) and they are/were split two and two along party lines. Two of them do try to initiate political talk but it gets shut down.

Well for the most part in 1988, I don't remember Dukakis followers not getting heated up when a Bush supporter spoke. Sure they voiced their concerns, but it was like this said: " Yeah Bush might be for that and such, but I'm still for Michael." Then the Bush voter, would be calm and say " Well we are different. You have your opinion, and I have mine." Then they would move on from the subject.  Even in disgagreement the arguments were calm and both parties remained friends.

Not now. I saw a woman  post on her Twitter that she hated Trump, but hated Trump supporters even more. So if you support Trump, don't visit my page or I'll block you. Then I've seen Trump followers threaten Biden supporters with defriending them on FB as well.

Any posts that I make on FB that are even slightly political are restricted to friends that I know are like-minded or at least neutral. I have a dozen or so FB friends that have no idea how often I make fun of them and their candidate.

It's almost as if she had perfectly valid reasons to block Trump supporters wholesale.

Naturally. Just a some Trump supporters seem to have valid reasons for blocking Biden followers.

I have respect for opinions. I do not have respect for statements that are demonstrably false and passed off as opinions, or even worse, facts.

We used to all pretty much agree on basic scientific facts like vaccines being safe and effective, and the results of elections being legitimate. Now, not so much.
