Longest stretch of consecutive freeway exits to numbered routes

Thought of this today as I drove past I-380 in San Bruno

Had I-380/State Route 380 been built further west as originally planned to Pacifica, the San Bruno stretch would have then consisted of the following exits:

Route 35/Skyline Boulevard
I-280 (existing Exit 5A/5B)
Route 82 (existing Exit 5C)
US 101/Bayshore Freeway (existing Exit 6)

This made me think: What's the longest stretch in which the exits all go to roads with numeric (or in some states, alphabetical) route designations?  (honorable mention if this includes exits that are marked for TO (numbered road) without going to an actual sign route directly, and also if a streak is interrupted by unsigned numbered routes that the freeway connects to)

Are there any freeways in which every single exit goes to a numbered route?  (380 itself does not fit that due to the ramps to South Airport Boulevard in South San Francisco)

How about I-64 in West Virginia and Kentucky?

West Virginia
  • Exit 28 - To US-60
  • Exit 20B - CR-60/89 (To US-60) Sorry, West Virginia's fractionals don't really count as numbered highways.
  • Exit 20A - To US-60
  • Exit 18 - WV-193 (To WV-2)
  • Exit 15 - US-60
  • Exit 11 - WV-10
  • Exit 8 - South WV-152/North WV-527
  • Exit 6 - North US-52
  • Exit 1 - South US-52
Kentucky
  • Exit 191 - US-23
  • Exit 185 - KY-180 (To US-60)
  • Exit 181 - US-60
  • Exit 179 - North KY-67
  • Exit 172 - KY-1/KY-7 (To AA Highway)(To KY-9)
  • Exit 161 - US-60
  • Exit 156 - KY-2 (To KY-59)
  • Exit 137 - East KY-32
  • Exit 133 - KY-801
  • Exit 123 - US-60
  • Exit 121 - KY-36
  • Exit 113 - US-60
  • Exit 110 - US-460/KY-11
  • Exit 101 - US-60

That's 23 consecutive exits over about 117.5 miles.

If you include unposted and unsigned numbered highways, the route extends further west to Louisville:

  • Exit 98 - Mountain Parkway (unposted KY-9000)
  • Exit 96 - KY-627
  • Exit 94 - KY-1958 (To KY-627)
  • Exit 87 - KY-859
  • Exit 81 - South I-75
  • Exit 113 - US-27/US-68
  • Exit 115 - KY-922
  • Exit 75 - North I-75
  • Exit 69 - East US-62
  • Exit 65 - KY-341 (To West US-62)
  • Exit 58 - US-60
  • Exit 53 - US-127
  • Exit 49 - East US-460
  • Exit 48 - KY-151 (To South US-127)
  • Exit 43 - KY-395
  • Exit 35 - KY-53
  • Exit 32 - KY-55
  • Exit 28 - KY-1848
  • Exit 19 - I-265/KY-841
  • Exit 17 - Blankenbaker Parkway (KY-913 but exit unsigned)
  • Exit 15 - KY-1747
  • Exit 12 - I-264

That brings the total to 45 consecutive exits over about 207 miles.

Makes me wonder about VA.  Most roads have a state highway number.

In Polk County, Florida all I-4 exits onto numbered roads. 33 miles of interstate in that particular county.

FL TOLL 570 in the same county connects to all but three unnumbered roads.

Exit 1- CR 542
Exit 3- SR 572
Exit 4- Unnumbered
Exit 6- SR 563
Exit 7- SR 37

This isn't really a thing in Colorado.

The longest stretch mile-wise is 11 miles on I-70 from exit 15 to exit 26 (3 exits total).
The greatest amount of exits in a row is 6 on I-70 from exit 265 to exit 271A.

West Virginia and Virginia both often sign county roads on their BGS (which are technically State Secondary Routes in both states).  I wouldn't count them as "Numbered Routes", but maybe the OP would.  Note the snide comment I made about West Virginia fractional routes upstream.  That's got more than a number hiding in the circular shield.

I-280 in Illinois is close:

  • I-74/US 6

There's probably longer in Alabama, but off the top of my head, I-65 across Cullman County is certainly up there:
Exit 318 - US 31
Exit 310 - AL 157
Exit 308 - US 278
Exit 305 - Cullman CR 222
Exit 304 - AL 69 North
Exit 299 - AL 69 South
Exit 291 - AL 91

27 miles and 7 exits. If you want to pull a technicality on one, you can get even further south:
Exit 289 - Blount CR 5 (unsigned from I-65, technicality only)
Exit 287 - US 31 North
Exit 284 - US 31 South/AL 160

That being said, if you pull that same technicality, then every interchange along I-65 from Exit 252 in Hoover/Vestavia hills to Exit 173 in Montgomery is with a numbered road:
Exit 252 - US 31
Exit 250 - I-459
Exit 247 - Shelby CR 17
Exit 246 - AL 119
Exit 242 - Shelby CR 52
Exit 238 - US 31
Exit 234 - Shelby CR 87 (unsigned from I-65, technicality only)
Exit 231 - US 31
Exit 228 - AL 25
Exit 219 - Chilton CR 42 (unsigned from I-65, technicality only)
Exit 212 - AL 145
Exit 208 - Chilton CR 28 (unsigned from I-65, technicality only)
Exit 205 - US 31/AL 22
Exit 200 - Chilton CR 59 (unsigned from I-65, technicality only)
Exit 186 - US 31
Exit 181 - AL 14 East
Exit 179 - US 82 West/AL 14 West
Exit 176 - AL 143
Exit 173 - AL 152

I-65 south of Montgomery may have an even longer stretch, if you pull the same technicality, but I don't feel like listing it all out.
It's all fun & games until someone summons Cthulhu and brings about the end of the world.

I also collect traffic lights, road signs, fans, and railroad crossing equipment.

I'm not surprised that Kentucky was quickly mentioned, because it has thousands of state highways, so it would be hard to find a road that needed an exit that wasn't a state highway. And I'm not surprised that toll roads like the Mass Pike were mentioned, because in the days when tollbooths were expensive to run, the exits were far apart, so they generally wouldn't stoop to creating interchanges with inferior unnumbered roads.

Would you count a numbered designation that only appears in one direction of travel? Business Loop I-35 in Ames, Iowa appears southbound at exit 113, but it is omitted from northbound signage because you would be going backwards on the business loop. If that doesn't count, there are numbered highways on every exit from there to exit 41 for Bridge Street in Owatonna, Minnesota. If this counts, the southern end of this streak is at exit 96 near Ankeny, Iowa.

No one has mentioned Nebraska, but on I-80, every incorporated small town right off of I-80 has a connecting link highway to the town. It looks like every exit from the WY-NE border to the Locust Street exit for Grand Island (Exit 314) has a number. The first one in Wyoming is WY 215, too.

Yup, if it's not in Henrico County, Arlington County, or an independent city (or some incorporated towns), it's most likely got a route number. There are very few exits in VA to unnumbered roads or unsigned secondary routes, though I-64 Exit 1 is to Jerry's Run Trail, a seasonal road that is unsigned F-198.

If you only count primary routes, though, here's Virginia:

I-64 has 2 stretches of 9 straight exits:

(stretch starts after Exit 181 - Parham Rd, unnumbered)
Exit 183 - US 250
Exit 185 - US 33
Exit 186 - I-195/VA 197
Exit 187 - I-95 north (EB only)
Exit 78 (I-95 concurrency) - VA 161
Exit 76 - US 1/US 301/VA 33
Exit 75 (I-95 concurrency)/Exit 190 (I-64 WB) - I-64 east
Exit 192 - US 360
Exit 193 - VA 33
(stretch ends at Exit 195 - Laburnum Ave, unnumbered)

(stretch starts after exit 231 - SR 607, secondary)
Exit 234 - VA 199
Exit 238 - VA 143
Exit 242 - VA 199
Exit 243 - US 60/VA 143/Busch Gardens
Exit 247 - VA 143/VA 238
Exit 250 - VA 105
Exit 255 - VA 143
Exit 256 - VA 171
Exit 258 - US 17
(stretch ends at Exit 261 - Hampton Roads Center Pkwy, unnumbered)

I-66 has no more than 4 straight exits with primary routes
I-74 has no more than 3 straight exits with primary routes
I-77 has no more than 3 straight exits with primary routes

I-81 has 1 stretch of 8 straight exits:
(stretch starts after Exit 26 - SR 737, secondary)
Exit 29 - VA 91
Exit 32 - US 11
Exit 35 - VA 107
Exit 39 - US 11
Exit 44 - US 11
Exit 45 - VA 16
Exit 47 - US 11
Exit 50 - US 11
(stretch ends at Exit 54 - SR 683, secondary)

I-85 has no more than 3 straight exits with primary routes

I-95 has 1 stretch of 10 straight exits:
(stretch begins after Exit 73 - Maury St, unnumbered)
Exit 74 - VA 195/US 250/VA 318
Exit 75 - I-64 eastbound
Exit 76 - US 1/US 301/VA 33
Exit 78 - VA 161
Exit 79 - I-64 westbound/I-195
Exit 80 - VA 161
Exit 81 - US 1
Exit 82 - US 301/VA 2
Exit 83 - VA 73 westbound
Exit 84 - I-295/US 1
(stretch ends at Exit 86 - SR 656, secondary)

In addition, I-381 and I-564 ONLY have junctions with primary routes - the Intermodal Connector is officially part of I-564 (and would form part of the planned Third Crossing, which would also be primary), and I-381's only interchange is with I-81 and it continues as a primary route at its other end.

I-195 and I-581 have junctions with primary routes at all but one of their exits (I-195 southbound has a ramp to unnumbered Rosewood Avenue, I-581 northbound has a ramp to unnumbered Valley View Blvd).
