Except this year. Hopefully.

Is there a chance of a Subway Series part II?  The NY Queens vs NY Bronx?  Their first Fall series was almost a quarter-century ago (October 2000)?
We're so far south that we're not even considered "The South"

It's more and more likely now, as the Mets are the first team to reach the LCS, and the Yankees are just one win away from that round.

Meanwhile, the Tigers take a 2-1 lead over the Guardians, and the Dodgers are looking to force a winner-take-all Game 5 against the Padres.

There'll at least be an NY-LA series, between the Dodgers and Mets.

Is it time for another Subway Series World Series?

While the Yankees are just two wins away from breaking their 15-year pennant drought, the NLCS shifts to Queens, with the Mets and Dodgers tied at 1-1. Out of the four possible World Series matchups, only Cleveland-Mets has never occurred, and when the then-Indians won their first championship, their opponent was based in Brooklyn. (The only other team Cleveland ever defeated in the Fall Classic is now in Atlanta.)

Yankees versus Dodgers is about the most uninteresting World Series I can think of.   Yankees versus Mets isn't much better, but at least I think I'd have a rooting interest.

Yeah, but on the other hand, I think it would have been fun to have a NYC-LA rivalry with others sports like basketball (Knicks or Nets vs Lakers or Clippers), hockey (Kings or Ducks vs Rangers or Islanders or to a latter extent the NJ Devils, the Kings won the Stanley cup against the NY Rangers a decade ago) or soccer (LA Galaxy or LA FC vs NYC FC or NY Red Bulls)

Not really, the traditional teams are a bore.

Until MLB fixes its financial system, this is what we're going to have more and more of.
Indiana: counties 100%, highways 100%
Illinois: counties 100%, highways 61%
Michigan: counties 100%, highways 56%
Wisconsin: counties 86%, highways 23%

I've always been more interested, from a fans' perspective, in an intrastate World Series:
Cubs vs W. Socks
Angels vs Dodgers
Cardinals vs Royals
Marlins vs Devil Rays
Phillies vs Pirates

Last I remember was 2002 World Series:  LA vs SF.

BREAKING NEWS:  As I type this, the Dodgers have punched their final out vs the Mets to advance to another World Series.  NY vs LA it is I guess.

Phillies/Pirates can't happen as both are in the NL. Astros/Rangers, which you didn't mention, also can't happen as both are in the AL.

Cubs/Sox hasn't happened since 1906.

Aren't we forgetting Giants/Jets vs. Rams/Chargers in football?

In fact, we had that in 2002.

I guess somehow it had to happen, with the Yankees facing the Dodgers in the World Series (the first such matchup in 43 years, and 12th overall dating back to the Brooklyn years). As someone who lived in L.A. for 12 years, I'm leaning towards the Dodgers in this one, but speaking as a lifelong Cubs fan, I could care less about either.

My wife's family nominally follow the Dodgers.  I guess that is part of that whole blue collar lean that the Central Valley has.  I haven't encountered too many Giants fans in my immediate vicinity.  Strangely the As probably have a bigger following in Fresno.

Henry

Looks like this World Series will start off on a somber note, as Dodgers legend Fernando Valenzuela  has passed away at the age of 63. He was on the last team to face the Yankees in the Series back in '81, and was a two-time champion, having also won in '88.

First ever walk-off 4 run home run in a World Series game, in the 10th inning!   :-o

And now he's homered in five straight World Series games, dating back to the Braves' 2021 title run. That ties George Springer, who did it in the last four games of the 2017 Series, and the first game of the 2019 edition (all were with the Astros).

Freddie Freeman has broken the World Series record with a homer in his sixth straight game, again dating back to the '21 triumph in Atlanta. But right now, the Yankees are leading late in the game, so they're not going down without a fight.
