I don't know, would you partially agree with me if I said this year's Chiefs are about as close to perfection as I've ever seen?  Other than probable fatigue issues, I can't see any weakness on that team -- from coaching to offense to defense to Special Teams.  The only thing I see hindering KC's bid to three-peat is mileage on their bodies after four Super Bowl runs this decade.  They have played 16 playoff games from their first Super Bowl run to their most recent (and more playoff game(s) this coming January), so that means they have racked up six seasons worth of playing in only a five year time frame.  Maybe this is the reason why no NFL team has ever three-peated?  It is for that reason that I would not be surprised if someone knocks them out and we see a new champion.  But then again, I would not be surprised if they actually did accomplish the three-peat.

They don't have the best receiver in the game.
They don't have the best RB in the game.
I think other than Chris Jones, they don't have any of the best players at their positions in the game.

So definitely not perfect. Perfect would be All-Pros at every position.

I started typing "best at their positions in the game on defense" and then got distracted by a work ping. Mahomes is the #1 QB in the NFL right now for sure. But I'd say Jones and Patty are probably the only two with that moniker at the moment. Kelce might be just past it...

I feel like the second coming of a famous pass 40 years ago occurred tonight.

I vividly remember watching Flutie throw that pass the night after Thanksgiving. We were at my grandmother's apartment in Far Rockaway and had finished dinner. My father, brother, and I all started screaming. My mom and grandma thought we were full of shit until they saw the replay. So tonight, my grandmother and father are deceased, my mom is at home, my brother has moved away, and my wife and I drove the lady next door nuts screaming our heads off. The way the pass tonight worked—throw it, get it tipped, and hope someone catches it—is how Boston College planned that play, "Flood Tip."

As far as Washington NFL football is concerned, the first game in Landover in 1997 had a rather similar ending with Gus Frerotte hurling it about halfway down the field to Michael Westbrook in OT.

They have holes. It's just that they're so well coached, so well quarterback-ed, and so good situationally.

If you put the best players from every Mahomes-era Chiefs team together on one squad, then you would have a nearly perfect team.

That was the Sunday night game later that year where they tied the Giants at 7.

He's not #1 by a decent margin on most rankings, which list him about 7th or 8th. He's been very fortunate his defense holds the opposing team to fewer points.

Lies, damn lies, and statistics. Mahomes is the best QB in the NFL.

I fully agree in terms of his play this season, but in terms of ranking him as a player, statistical metrics don't even really matter until someone else starts winning some Super Bowls and knocking off Mahomes to do it.

John Middlekauff said it best last week on a podcast I listen to: some athletes have earned the right to not be questioned. Steph Curry has had nights of repeatedly jacking up 3's and missing almost all of them. Nobody cares because he is the established best 3-point shooter in history and has earned the right to go 0/50 one night without anyone batting an eye.

In that light, I was thinking about the Anthony Richardson situation with him basically quitting the game for a play. It's been all over the media since. If Mahomes did that? It would not be news at all. Because nobody needs to ask deep questions about Mahomes' commitment or work ethic. Anything anyone needs to know about him as a player is in the record books.

I don't know about tonight though, the Jets are making me extremely nervous right now as this is a trap game for the Texans.  The Jets looks to have just as much talent as the Texans, especially on the defensive side.  What if Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams really break out tonight and has their best game ever since leaving Green Bay?  And as if that weren't bad enough, we just found out that Diggs is lost for the season, and still no Nico Collins.  Our running game can only take us so far before it becomes too predictable.  Last year the Jets clobbered the Texans without the talents of Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams; tonight they have both of them do deal with.

I'm not trying to sound like a pessimist, but we Texans fans are unique in that we never count our opponents until the final victory formation, just trying to anticipate all possible outcomes.

I would imagine that Discount Double Check has made this Jets squad actively worse than their team last year.  That said, I would be more concerned about the Jets defense.  It isn't as though the Texans are lighting up the scoreboard offensively.

Stroud over 1.5 TDs is a +160 bet too. Vegas doesn't have much faith in Houston apparently.

Texans fans are far from unique among fanbases in that respect. I know there are fans of many teams that feel the same way, including most Bills fans. Even after a half-decade of winning a decent number of games by large margins, nerves are still running high until 0:00 anytime a game is close in the 4th quarter.

Something that I've often wondered but occupied my mind quite a bit this past week for obvious reasons:

Why do teams not blitz the QB when you know a Hail Mary is coming? Force the QB to throw before the receivers get to the end zone. You can rush the passer with five and still have more then enough guys downfield to defense whatever throw the QB does manage to get off.

I'm talking specifically about plays that start > 40 yards away. Inside the 40, I'd keep more guys back.

Interestingly enough, that's exactly what the Lions did to beat the Vikings two weeks ago.
