Well, someone the Lions won despite one of the worst games of Jared Goff's career.  Five interceptions isn't something a team usually overcomes.

Just as I feared:  CJ Stroud -- the latest victim of the dreaded Sophomore Slump.  He's lost all his magic from his rookie year.

The Texans are searching for answers....something, anything to try to salvage a disastrous turn, but how are they going to be able to find it in a place they've never won at in franchise history next Monday?  They're winless (0-3) all-time at Jerry's World.  To make matters worse, the disturbing pattern of last-second, walk-off losses vs NFC opponents that's been going on for years -- that's 6 such losses since 2021 -- doesn't look like it's letting up.

If it makes you feel better, the Cowboys might be the worst team in the NFL at present moment.  Cooper Rush and Trey Lance pretty much are incapable of operating an effective offense.  That being the case, Stroud won't have to worry about trying to have to match scores.

I'm still worried because:

A) Trey Lance has beaten the Texans before when he was with the Niners.  Their QB situation could very well be addition by subtraction by virtue of Dak going down for the season.

B) The Cowboys are still loaded with TONS of talent -- they are slicing it up against a very tough and talented AFC North division.  When you win at Cleveland and at Pittsburgh and nearly beat Baltimore -- all three teams with very dangerous defenses -- that doesn't sound like the worst team in the NFL to me....far from it in fact.

C) Of course I've already mentioned Texans yet to win in Arlington, all three losses there in franchise history.

Again, I'm not meaning to sound like a pessimist, but just trying to anticipate all possible outcomes.  Us Texans fan know about heartbreaks more than any other fanbases do.

They aren't moving the ball without Dak Prescott.  His subtraction is what makes the Cowboys likely the worst team for at least a couple weeks.

This is my favorite piece of news to hear right now, as a matter of fact.

Dak is probably out for the rest of the season. Meanwhile, from The Landry Hat, CeeDee Lamb sends clear message to Jerry Jones after AT&T Stadium sun controversy. And, from Blogging The Boys, Dallas Cowboys set worst kind of NFL history in embarrassing loss to Philadelphia Eagles by having the most consecutive games in which a team had a 20-point deficit in their home building. This goes back to the Packers-Cowboys playoff game back in January.

With a .333 record, the Cowboys are not exactly the worst team in the NFL. The Raiders and the Giants only have two wins and have lost five consecutive games. Are they playoff worthy? Absolutely not, and the current dysfunction is going to make this a season to forget.

The Raiders probably would be favored against the Cowboys.  Short term I'd bet the Giants would take the Cowboys.  The latter is dejected and doesn't have anything to play for.

Where have you been the last 4 years?

Not at Foxborough thankfully.  But now our team has to take that dreaded trip there on Sunday.

You'll win by double digits and have 5+ sacks.

I'll repeat my prediction from the last time you were worried when the Texans were about to play a terrible team.

Was talking about this yesterday. The Cowboys organization in the 21st century has never been known for bringing a high level of energy. Many things contribute to that - the owner, the coaches the owner has hired, and even just the vibe of the franchise, being the most valuable sports team in the world with a palace of a stadium nicknamed the death star. But I've never seen things anywhere near as bad as they are right now. Everyone in the building is a zombie. From Jerry to the entire coaching staff to the players, especially the former all-pros who are being paid at the top of the market. It reeks of hopelessness and apathy. And above all else, that's what makes a team really hard to root for.

For all the failures of the Cowboys during the Jason Garrett years and the majority of the McCarthy years - there were a lot - it's never been anywhere close to this bleak. Green Bay took it all out of them. I think this group of players is just emotionally done with this franchise and I don't see how anything will change until Jerry's gone.

This game is different though....the pride of the Lone Star State is on the line here.  Both teams are playing for the Governer's Cup.  I don't know about millions of Cowboys fans outside the state of Texas, but every Cowboys & Texans fan within the state will be tuning in this game for bragging rights.  The rivalry is fierce -- it's a Big Brother vs Little Brother type rivalry.  Each team's fans want their team to crush the other team.  Both teams usually bring maximum effort against each other.  Whereas there has never been any sort of rivalry between the Patriots and Texans.

By my estimation the Texans are the Cowboys' 8th-biggest rival

- Eagles
- Giants
- Football Redskin Commanders
- 49ers
- Packers
- Steelers
- Lions

You can't have 8 rivals. There's not enough hate to go around for 8 teams.

I'd like to think the current Houston team's biggest rival is the one who once called that city home, the now-Tennessee Titans.
Go Cubs Go! Go Cubs Go! Hey Chicago, what do you say? The Cubs are gonna win today!

The sun will be in different positions throughout the season, and the Cowboys will play different times, so the issue doesn't come up every game.

That said, the Cowboys opponents will play down there once a year.  The Cowboys will play down there up to 9 times during the regular season alone.  They are really at a disadvantage...one that their own owner seems to be ok with.  They have curtains during other events.  Not sure why he wants to be so hardheaded about this issue for football games.

I guess I can understand the current division rivalry, but I just don't get the others on your list.

And trust me on this one:  Cowboys/Texans rivalry is pretty intense just like Eagles/Steelers, Giants/Jets, Raiders/Niners.  Jerry's World and Reliant/NRG Stadium are located less than 270 miles apart, so there will be some level of clashing of local pride.  But with the Cowboys/Texans, this one is especially heated due to the historical contrast:  Cowboys being the most established sports franchise in the NFL, and the Texans the youngest team.  The Texans have as many playoff wins in their history as the Cowboys have Super Bowl rings.  It's the classic big brother/little brother type of animosity.

I don't know how big these rivalries are. When it's an AFC-NFC clash, they often only play each other once every 4 years.  It's more fun when you get to play rivalries every year, or twice a year, when they're much more meaningful.

But when they are within the same state -- or in several cases the same greater metro area, surely some level of local clash occurs.  Different sport, yet the Cubs/W. Sox and Yankees/Mets also come to mind.  I've been told that SF and Oakland are rival cities, so in the past I've heard that Niners fans and Raiders fans clash very hard.  No surprise that Ohio sports fans are divided (Cincinnati vs Cleveland).

I don't know about Baltimore fans vs Washington fans....I haven't heard much from when their respective sports teams face off -- Nationals vs Orioles or Commanders vs Ravens.  And nothing in Florida has suggested much of a rivalry among the cities in that state.  Surely the Missouri sports fans are or have been polarized (KC vs STL) in the past.  I'm sure if Portland had an AFC team, that vs the Seahawks could also spark a big clash between their respective fans.  What would happen if Memphis and Nashville both had teams in the same sport?  Would the state of Tennessee be divided?
