Quote from: Rothman on November 18, 2024, 08:52:06 AMThe US 11 bridge job is much more interesting.

I agree, but I needed to have something explain what is going on in Intercourse or people may think it is completely a normal resurfacing job (which it otherwise is).

(For US 209) PennDOT - District 5 News: PennDOT Announces Plans Display for Route 209 Bridge Project in New Philadelphia Borough, Schuylkill County

QuoteThe Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invites the public to a plans display for a project to replace the Route 209/North Valley Street Bridge over Mine Hollow Run in New Philadelphia Borough, Schuylkill County. For those interested in learning more about this project, a public plans display is scheduled for Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 6:00 PM at New Philadelphia Borough Hall located at 15 Macomb Street, New Philadelphia, PA, 17959.

The project will be presented during the regularly scheduled Borough Supervisors Meeting. During the presentation, subject boards will be displayed to show the different facets of the project. The plans will also be on display and available for approximately one month on PennDOT's website at Schuylkill County Public Meetings (pa.gov).

The substructure consists of reinforced concrete abutments with integral wingwalls. The superstructure exhibits heavy spalling with exposed reinforcement and severe section loss. Both abutments exhibit deep spalling and cracking. The existing structure has deteriorated to a level where the bridge needs to be replaced.

The 10 feet long, 35.5 feet wide Route 209 bridge was constructed in 1938, widened in 1949 and has an average daily traffic volume of 4,288 vehicles.

The proposed replacement structure is a 40 feet long, 16 feet wide precast concrete box culvert with wingwalls. The structure approach roadway will be reconstructed as required including installation of guiderail. In general, the project is anticipated to maintain the existing roadway and stream alignment. During construction the plan is to maintain traffic by constructing the culvert in stages.

The project is currently in design, and you have the opportunity to review the information and provide comments. The virtual plans display will be available to view online from November 19 to December 19, 2024.

The purpose of the plans display is to introduce the project and receive public input regarding any questions or concerns with the project.

The project documents can be made available in alternative languages or formats if requested. If you need translation/interpretation services or have special needs or have special concerns that require individual attention, please contact PennDOT Project Manager Laura Montgomery, at c-lmontgom@pa.gov or 717-461-7908.

PennDOT - District 8 News: Shapiro Administration Highlights More than 170 Miles Paved and 27 Bridges Repaired or Replaced in Harrisburg-Based PennDOT Region During 2024 Construction Season

QuoteHarrisburg, PA – Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Engineering District 8 region covering Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, and York counties today held an event wrapping up a successful construction season with 119 active projects, 50 of which were completed this year. Work in 2024 included replacing or repairing 27 bridges and paving 171 roadway miles.

Statewide from January through October, 5,385 roadway miles were improved, including 1,941 miles of paving. In the same timeframe, work advanced on 401 state and locally owned bridges. Additionally, 356 construction contracts for highway, bridge, and other improvement projects were completed statewide through PennDOT's private-sector partners so far this year.

Since taking office, Governor Josh Shapiro has secured over $300 million in new infrastructure funding to maintain Pennsylvania's roads and bridges – reducing the Pennsylvania State Police's reliance on the Motor License Fund, delivering more funding for transportation while ensuring our law enforcement officers are sustainably funded.

In the southcentral region, 69 projects with a contract value of $445.1 million are currently active. A total of 66 projects, including eight local projects, were or will be let in 2024 with the low or estimated bid value of $185 million.

The event was held along a major highway reconstruction project on Interstate 83 in Dauphin County. The first of two contracts for East Shore Section 3 of the larger I-83 Capital Beltway Project, this $154.7 million contract includes widening and reconstructing portions of I-83, construction of overhead bridges at 29th Street and 19th Street, construction of the new Cameron Street Interchange, removing the 13th Street interchange, and roadway improvements along the Cameron Street, 19th Street and 29th Street corridors.
Work on this contract began in 2023 and is expected to be completed in 2027. The second East Shore Section 3 contract is expected to be bid in 2025, with construction from 2025 to 2028.

"The I-83 Capital Beltway Project will help ease congestion and improve safety and mobility in one of the busiest areas in the region," District 8 Assistant District Executive for Construction Mike Reeder said. (For US 322)  PennDOT - District 6 News: (UPDATED) Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) Bridge Construction to Close U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass) Weeknights in West Goshen Township

QuoteKing of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that superstructure replacement on a Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) bridge will close a section of U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass) in West Goshen Township, Chester County.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:

Monday, December 9, through Thursday, December 12, from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass) will be closed weeknights in both directions between Phoenixville Pike and New Street.
During the closure, westbound U.S. 322 motorists will be directed to use the Paoli Pike Interchange, Gay Street, North High Street, Chestnut Street, Hannum Avenue, and Downingtown Pike. Eastbound U.S. 322 motorists will be directed to use Business U.S. 322, Hannum Avenue, N. New Street, Market Street, West Chester Pike, and the ramp to U.S. 322/U.S. 202 South.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

On December 21, 2023, Route 100 (Pottstown Pike), U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass), and the ramp from Route 100 to eastbound U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass) were closed after a large vehicle struck the Route 100 bridge over the U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass).

PennDOT's contractor had previously repaired the structure and a section of U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass) where debris from the bridge strike had fallen onto the roadway.

Built in 1955, the single-span, steel stringer Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) bridge over U.S. 322 is 77-feet-long, 80-feet-wide, and carries about 15,691 vehicles per day.

PennDOT - District 3 News: Shapiro Administration Celebrates 118 Roadway Miles and 78 Bridges Improved in North Central PA in 2024

QuoteMontoursville, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Engineering District 3 team is wrapping up the 2024 construction season that will include 101 new contracts worth an estimated $153 million, to improve travel and safety on state highways and bridges across Bradford, Columbia, Lycoming, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder, Sullivan, Tioga, Union. This investment included rehabilitating, reconstructing, and resurfacing 118 roadway miles and work on 78 bridges across the district.

Statewide from January through November, 5,485 roadway miles were improved, including 1,955 miles of paving. In the same timeframe, work advanced on 422 state and locally owned bridges. Additionally, 447 construction contracts for highway, bridge, and other improvement projects were completed statewide through PennDOT's private-sector partners so far this year.

In District 3's nine county region, more than 118 miles of paving, 550 miles of seal coating (oil and chip), and six miles of microsurfacing and high friction surface treatment were completed this year.

In addition to highway work, 78 state-owned bridges were replaced or repaired throughout the district. This includes replacing or rehabilitating 23 bridges and preserving 55 bridges in good condition to extend their life. The district also performed approximately 200 flood repairs to bridges in Lycoming, Sullivan, and Tioga counties.

This work included eight small bridge projects completed by department-force crews. The district has been able to stretch resources by using in-house capabilities such as paving and bridge crews to complete work.

"This year, we continued our commitment to improve and maintain our transportation assets, which are critical to our local, state, and national needs and economy.  We were successful in this effort and responded to emergencies such as critical bridge damage due to an over height load in June and devastating flood damage in August," said PennDOT District 3 Executive Eric High. "The dedication shown by our employees was even more evident in the wake of the emergencies we experienced. In many cases, our employees sacrificed holidays, family time, and delayed addressing damage to their own properties to ensure safe and passable roads for the public. Our employees are our greatest asset, and we would not be able to continue the overall improvement and maintenance of our transportation system without their dedication.  We also greatly appreciate the patience of our roadway users as we work to recover from emergencies and improve our transportation system."

Below is a list, by county, of the major projects that were under construction in the district in 2024. Some of the largest are multi-year projects that started prior to 2024.

Central Susquehanna Valley Transportation Project

The Central Susquehanna Valley Transportation (CSVT) project continues to progress, which will address safety and congestion concerns on the Route 11/15 corridor in Northumberland, Snyder, and Union counties. The project is divided into Northern and Southern sections.

The CSVT Northern Section opened to traffic in July 2022. Traffic counts taken in the fall of 2022 and 2023 showed that traffic volumes on CSVT increased as motorists became more familiar with the new roadway. Overall, the CSVT appears to be doing what is intended, removing through traffic from local communities, which reduces congestion in those areas and improving safety by eliminating conflicts with local traffic. We look forward to observing similar benefits in Shamokin Dam Borough and Monroe Township, Snyder County in just a few years when the Southern Section is opened to traffic.

The CSVT Southern Section involves constructing roughly 6 miles of new four-lane, limited access highway connecting Route 15 south of Winfield to Routes 11/15 north of Selinsgrove within Monroe Township and Shamokin Dam Borough, Snyder County. It will include an interchange/connector to Route 61 (the Veterans Memorial Bridge) that leads to the City of Sunbury in Northumberland County.

The first contract was awarded to Trumbull Corporation of Pittsburgh for $115.2 million in the spring 2022. The contract, which is 90 percent complete, includes 4.5 million cubic yards of earthwork, drainage structures, erosion and sediment control facilities, construction of the new bridge that carries Sunbury Road over the CSVT highway, reconfiguration of Park and Fisher Roads, and construction of two roundabouts. Work began in the summer of 2022 and is anticipated to be completed by 2025.

The second contract was awarded to Walsh Construction Company II, LLC of Chicago, Illinois, for $106.4 million in fall 2023. The contract includes nine new bridges and four noise barrier walls.

In 2024, construction began on seven bridges including Grangers Road, CSVT over Route 61, Eleventh Avenue, Stetler Avenue, Cortland Drive, the ramps that will carry Route 61 over CSVT, and Park Road.
Foundations are complete for the noise barrier wall north of Grangers Road.  The panels for the wall are anticipated to be installed by March 2025.
Work has begun on the noise barrier wall foundations along the Route 61 connector near the Orchard Hill Neighborhood and will continue throughout the winter.
Construction of the bridges that will span Mill Road and Attig Road along with the additional noise barrier walls are anticipated to begin in 2025. The additional noise barrier walls will be constructed near:
Park Road, Fisher Road, and Villa Lane along the CSVT northbound lanes.
Mark Drive and Shawna Lane along the CSVT southbound lanes.
Weatherfield neighborhood and Orchard Hill neighborhood in Shamokin Dam Borough.
Work on the second contract began in early 2024 and is anticipated to be completed by 2026.

Final design work is ongoing to develop plans for the third contract, which will involve paving the new highway and constructing its interchanges. Bids for that contract are anticipated by early 2026. The Southern Section is anticipated to be opened to traffic in 2027, and the Route 61 Connector is anticipated to be open to traffic in 2028.

Total estimated cost so far for the CSVT overall is $938 million.
