Quote from: peterj920 on November 25, 2024, 02:49:11 AMI'd also like to know why WISDOT spent money on posting Wis 50 signs past Wis 31 only to be taken down about a year later when the ending was moved to Wis 31. Talk about a waste of money.

Because it was still a state highway.
There weren't that many signs anyway between WIS 31 and WIS 32. Probably took half a day to put them up.

As the signs are probably still in good condition, they are likely in a sign shop ready to be reinstalled when needed.

It's still a big waste. The Wis 50 on the street blades had to be greened out. Why not just let it be an unsigned state highway for the short duration? I'm sure locals were referring to it as 75th St anyways.

It's not a "big waste." It's a minor cost. And the standard is that state highways are signed.

Quote from: GeekJedi on November 22, 2024, 06:50:24 PMI didn't see it mentioned (and if it was, I apologize) but a little presto-change-o happened in Racine County. STH-75 was turned over to the county and is now signed as CTH-BD. Meanwhile, CTH-KR was upgraded east of I-94/41 and is now STH-195.
Must be new as Google Maps still show the old designations.
Google typically doesn't know of route changes until they're notified. I assume the state or local entities do that, but more than likely, the road geeks do.

BTW, I just sent in an update. They usually are quite responsive, from my experience. Open Street Maps has NO updates on any of the three routes, so y'all better get on that before I muster up some ambition. Or find my login information.

Here's the End 50 sign on streetview at Wis 31.

That is like with Oneida St between US 10/WI 441 and downtown Appleton.  Long ago it all WAS numbered as various state highways (US 10 and loooonger ago, US 41), but even today it still has all of the hallmarks of being an (unsigned) state highway (I'll call it 'secret WI 510').  At and north of the Appleton/Lawrence Sts intersection in downtown Appleton, it is an Appleton  city street.  But south of the saw line by the south intersection crosswalk for that one block of Appleton St to Prospect Ave and then continuing south on Oneida St and across the Fox River bridge to the DDI at the US 10/WI 441 freeway interchange, it looks and feels completely like a WisDOT state highway.

A minor note here, WHBY radio (1150 AM - Appleton, WI) is now giving commuter drive time traffic reports.

That's funny - when I worked at the stations in Milwaukee, we stopped doing traffic reports because, while there were always traffic issues, the travel times and slow spots were always the same. We just went to reporting anything out of the ordinary.

I noticed the Stadium Freeway ghost ramps at I-894 have been completely removed but the bridge westbound still remains. I wonder if there's a future project to removed the bridge and fill the area in like on I-43?

Yeah I drove that - I don't think there's an immediate plan (haven't looked) because the just finished repavement (with long tollway like stripes, albeit temporarily until they paint black of course)

As I learned this past summer, WisDOT is selling off the ROW north of I-41/43/894 for development.  I am anticipating any further work on the mainline when the engineers declare it to be needed.

The Ghostbuster

Well, this is good news! These are two of the projects that I am the most interested in. I doubt construction will start on either until after 2030.

Quote from: peterj920 on December 09, 2024, 12:40:53 PMI-90 from Wisconsin Dells to The Beltline and US 51 from Wis 30 to I-39/90/94 were advanced today as the 2 new major projects.

US 51/Stoughton Rd needs more work south of Wis 30 than north of Wis 30 that was approved. Traffic gets backed up pretty far at the Pfaum and Buckeye Rd signals. The pavement north of Wis 30 is in decent shape still and I wonder why the north segment was chosen over the south if it has less a lot less traffic?

Aren't they in the middle of a planning project for the south segment?

I generally agree, but the intersection with East Wash. could use a serious (and expensive) upgrade.

The Ghostbuster

As long as they build bridges and ramps at both Pflaum Rd. and Buckeye Rd., and widen four-lane portions to six lanes, I will be satisfied.

mgk920

The 'big shovel' I-39/90/94 project will likely be starting with the spring thaw after the current 'big shovel' six lane upgrades to I-41 are complete, although the eight-laning of the Wisconsin River bridge is already programmed to be done much sooner.  I wouldn't mind seeing the East Towne interchange being redone as a free-flowing directional 'T' for traffic to and from the US 151 freeway to the northeast, with a street corridor to be piggybacked though there and developed for Washington Ave local traffic (like at the I-39/90/I-43/WI 81 Beloit interchange or the I-41/WI 29/32 shawano interchange in the Green Bay area).

US 12 fan

As of now, the Madison to Wisconsin Dells project is supposed to start in 2029 and finish in 2051. The first part would be the north end of the project to the US 12 exit from 2029 to 2032. The second part would be from the US 51 exit to the I-94-Hwy 30 exit from 2030 to 2035. The third part would be from the US 12 exit to around the I-39-Hwy 78 exit from 2032 to 2037. The fourth part would be just around the I-39-Hwy 78 exit to the Wisconsin River bridge and on I-39 up to the Wisconsin River bridge around Portage from 2037 to 2040. The fifth part would be from the US 12-18 exit to the I-94-Hwy 30 exit and on I-94 and on Hwy from 2038 to 2045. The last part would be from around the US 51 exit to the Wisconsin River bridge from 2044 to 2051.
