And got one step closer to clinching a bye with Eagles loss, though they still have the Vikings on their tails.

Nope, because you can't depend on my Patriots to do anything good. I can't believe it took us 7 attempts to score a TD after having first and goal from the 1.

Jaguars hold the tiebreaker at 2-10.
Jaguars won today, so the Raiders are now in line for the first pick.
Raiders won. So it is now the Giants.

thspfc

I die a little inside every time a Giants, Raiders, Jaguars, Browns, Jets, Bears, or Panthers fan talks about what draft pick they're about to have.

It doesn't matter. If this season has taught us anything about football it's that some of these organizations are fundamentally broken from top to bottom. Almost everybody running the operation is incompetent. One draft pick changes so little in the grand scheme.

McCarthy has made himself difficult to fire, but offering a new contract is different than just not firing. At least the Cowboys didn't give up, unlike a certain other recently eliminated NFC team that hasn't won a championship in 30 years.

Texans haven't won against the Ravens in a decade (25-13 Win on December 2014), losing their last six games; Lamar Jackson is undefeated against the Texans and winning big by an average margin of 26 points.  Four of the last five games were played in Baltimore (including last season's Divisional Game) but this week the Ravens fly to Houston for Christmas Day.  If the Texans somehow manage to terminate their current losing streak vs the Ravens (plus another Steelers loss), we'll still be very much alive for the #3 in the AFC, which the franchise history's highest playoff seed.  The status of Tank Dell Jr's injury is still unknown, but it's hard to see him returning for the playoffs.

And to think the Texans have the tie-break over the Bills (Won 23-20 in Week Five) and Steelers (better division record); a couple of unfortunate last-second, walk-off, game-losing plays against two of our NFC opponents eliminated our chances for that unprecedented #2 seed.  Despite the Texans competitiveness, their failure to close out games in the end is a major issue that needs to be addressed this offseason.
We're so far south that we're not even considered "The South"

Having watched McCarthy for years, he is a high floor coach, but his ceiling isn't as high as others - in game adjustments aren't really his forte. But he is a very good offensive mind and a GREAT locker room guy. This wouldn't be like the Cowboys keeping Jason Garrett around - he's way better than that.

I know no one cares about others' fantasy football teams, but I made the Super Bowl in my league for the first time in 12 years. It definitely helped that Josh Allen didn't have his best game, but I would have won even if he put up 40 again.

Yeah, that might come down to the last game of the season when the Lions and Viqueens play.

What's remarkable is that not just one, but two, and maybe three teams from the NFC North will be in the playoffs, leaving just the Bears out.  In any other division, the Bears might be mediocre or even at/near the top, but they're in a very rough neighborhood.

The Bears problems go far beyond their division.

To go deeper here, the NFC North is benefitting because they are ending up playing fairly soft divisions in the schedule rotation - the AFC South and NFC West.

The Lions, Vikings and Packers all went 4-0 against the AFC South. But the Bears went 2-2.

The Packers went 4-0 aginst the NFC West. The Lions have gone 3-0 with at San Francisco remaining. The Vikings went 3-1.  The Bears have gone 1-2 with Seattle coming to Chicago on Thursday.

In addition, the Bears because of last year's finish, matched up against the last place teams from three additional divisions - and went 1-2 in those games.  The Lions actually did the same (against much tougher competition), but the Vikings went 3-0 and the Packers 1-1 with New Orleans upcoming tonight.

In other words, the Bears have gone 4-6 against maybe one of the softest non-division schedules with one game remaining.

It's much more down to the NFCN being a historically great division this year. Here are the NFCW and AFCS team records when to take out games against the NFCN . . .

Texans: 8-3
Rams: 8-3
Seahawks: 8-4
Colts: 6-5
Cardinals: 6-5
49ers: 5-7
Titans: 3-8
Jaguars: 3-8

Total of 47-43.

Against DET, MIN, and GB, the entire rest of the league is a whopping 4-32. If the divisions were realigned at the beginning of the season such that the Lions, Vikings, Packers, and Eagles were all in different divisions - and the schedule modified accordingly - the #4 seed in the NFC might have a 14-3 record.

I am not that surprised that the Packers clinched a playoff spot! 34-0 with the Saints ain't winning another game...

The Saints became the first team to be shutout in the season. Oof. Also I lost my Fantasy Semifinal matchup, but it was still a great year.

It's pretty funny that the same four teams that played on Saturday are playing today, just with an opponent swap.

Done on purpose to give those teams an extra day of rest as Sunday to Wednesday is too short.

Games on Christmas even when it's on a Wednesday confirms that Christmas NFL is here to stay forever.

Looking at the week 17 games....
* Lions at 49ers (MNF)
* Packers at Vikings (Sunday Late)

If both the Lions and Vikings win (or lose), they will be both at 14-2 or 13-3 with the Lions holding both the head-to-head advantage as well as the division and conference advantage. Since the NFL prefers to have a SNF football with playoff implications in Week 18, this will make the Vikings at Lions game a easy choice for that game as it would be a game betweek first and fifth seed much like the 2019 contest between the 49ers and Seahawks. The only other possibility would be Rams at Seahawks. The rest of the week 18 games look meh.

I wonder how upstate New Yorkers that are paying attention are feeling about this Ravens/Bills divisional round matchup that looks inevitable at this point. It's interesting how the Bills are so much better than the "corpse of the Chiefs", beat them already, and will definitely beat them again. Considering how the Bills lost to the Ravens and Texans and gave up 42+ points twice, while KC beat the Ravens and Texans and has not given up more than 30 in a game. Until the AFC championship, the Chiefs will avoid the only two teams capable of beating them in the playoffs, by virtue of winning 15 games. Moral of the story, win more games . . .

Roadgeekteen

Can't believe the Chiefs are 15-1.
