With the SD Chargers knocked out of the Playoffs, the KC Chiefs now have a free ride to their seventh (7th) consecutive AFC Championship game (due to their competition being eliminated). The team coached by Andy Reid will await the winner of the 'B' teams (Buffalo/Baltimore), while enjoying another "bye" week as Rex Ryan and popular opinion suggests.

The Chargers become the first team in sports history to get knocked out during a Bye Week.  (Didn't think that could ever be humanly possible, but as we all know in sports, anything can happen)
We're so far south that we're not even considered "The South"

Excuse me, this isn't 2016! I'm not hearing anyone talking about the St. Louis Rams heading to Philly in the Divisional round.
Go Cubs Go! Go Cubs Go! Hey Chicago, what do you say? The Cubs are gonna win today!

Deion Sanders as a possible replacement. Can't order enough popcorn for that one.

That would be one of the most Jerry Jonesian moves of all time—although I suppose it's also Dan Snyderesque.

Al Davis-esque.

I'm really confused here. Were they disqualified or something like that?

I play Magic: the Gathering, and even those rules state that if you get a Game Loss or a Match Loss while you have the bye, it applies to the match after the bye.

What do you mean getting knocked out during a bye week?

I'm assuming this is all opinion based on what teams you figured would be advancing.

JayhawkCO

I'm assuming it's some sort of reference to San Diego not having a team anymore?

Ask Rex Ryan....he's the one who proclaimed the Chargers were on a bye week.

It's just like the Niners moving from SF to a city closer to SJ, but decided to keep the same city name.  The Chargers are playing in a stadium in a city that happens to be a lot closer to LA than to SD, but for me the Chargers will always represent San Diego no matter where they play (and which city is designated).  And although I didn't follow the NFL until 2002, I do remember the Rams being in LA to begin with (before moving to STL).

I'm vexed at how the Rams managed to maintain a fan base in the Central Valley despite moving out of state for a time.  Most people here in Fresno are Rams fans followed by the Raiders and then 49ers.

He's joking because an espn pundit claimed that that Texans were going to be so easy that it may as well be a bye week.

I doubt they were St. Louis fans. They just wanted to have a team and when the teams came back to LA, the Rams were better so they picked them.

I got a lot of extended family that insists they still followed them in St. Louis.  I think there is a whole White Collar/Blue Collar dynamic at play with the Ram and 49er fanbases around here.  I find that somewhat amusing given Los Angeles isn't exactly what I would consider a blue collar city.

And for whatever reason, the Rams strike me as the more white collar of the two LA teams too. Odd.

Quote from: jgb191 on January 15, 2025, 10:24:45 AM... I do remember the Rams being in LA to begin with (before moving to STL).

They weren't in Los Angeles "to begin with." They started out in Cleveland (though I am certainly not old enough to "remember" those days). The Cleveland Rams beat the Redskins 15–14 in the 1945 NFL Championship Game and then moved to Los Angeles the following month due to financial losses and the threat of competition from the then-new All America Football Conference's Cleveland Browns. (The only other two times a pro football team moved after winning a championship were in 1962, when the AFL's Dallas Texans moved to Kansas City, and 1984, when the USFL's Philadelphia Stars moved to Baltimore.)

Regarding calling a team by its former city, Buddy Ryan continued to refer to the Oakland Raiders during their entire tenure in Los Angeles. You can also find a video on YouTube of a coin toss sometime within the past ten years or so when Ed Hochuli referred to the Oakland Raiders as "Los Angeles."

Anyone know if Buffalo's weather will be a factor in Ravens/Bills game?  I realize both cities are very cold most of the year, but I also know that Buffalo is significantly colder than Baltimore, but how much colder does Buffalo get comparing the two cities?  Is it enough of a difference to factor into the matchup?

The current forecast for Orchard Park on Sunday night is 50% chance of snow with light winds and a low of 6 degrees. That's colder than it typically gets in either place, but not too shocking for the Buffalo area, while I'd assume it's pretty rare to for temps to fall that low in Baltimore.

That's relatively similar to the forecast for Baltimore except that the single-digit temperature in Maryland will be due to the windchill, rather than being the ambient air temperature.

Snow and wind theoretically favors the Eagles and Ravens this weekend.
