Who made that shield? Can't be Caltrans.

I don't think CalTrans makes county route shields.

Not only is this a peculiar way to sign a concurrency, it's also a peculiar concurrency, since J6 could just have ended where it first met J7. The roads don't come together for a while, then split apart again.

I don't think that's in the MUTCD catalog of standard banners.

What gets me is that almost every other assembly has J6 and J7 on separate shields.  Oh well, I can't think of any other reason to take a photo of J6 other than to get that weird -1 shield.

It's all fun & games until someone summons Cthulhu and brings about the end of the world.

I also collect traffic lights, road signs, fans, and railroad crossing equipment.

That monstrosity actually replaced a perfectly valid one that used to be there: https://www.floodgap.com/roadgap/153/#sec_14

They changed the "banner" sign too.

Quote from: Mav94 on April 11, 2025, 07:34:43 PMHere in a residential neighborhood of Humboldt, IA is a rather odd sign:

https://maps.app.goo.gl/f3D6wzy2SxAjKhZD7

This is a standard Humboldt street sign, but this street is not US 169, which is four blocks west of here, as the sign (almost) indicates. As far as I know, US 169 has not traveled on this road since at least 1937, and it's very likely it never traveled it at all. This sign is not on any sort of direct route between any two noteworthy places -- this isn't the most direct route between US 169 and downtown, or anywhere else for that matter. Yet somehow there's a sign here directing traffic to US 169. Who is it for?

Strangely I remember, from many childhood visits to Humboldt, that back in the 1970s and 1980s there was a very old sign at this corner directing traffic to US 169. It had a 169 shield and an arrow pointing right. The thing was decrepit in the 1970s and it doesn't really serve a clear purpose -- but they went to the trouble of making another one?

that reminds me of a similar sign i saw near St Louis

In Northern Kentucky, Kyles Lane is closed between Madison Ave and Farrell Drive because of a landslide. New signs were recently posted along SB Madison (KY 17) at Kyles and at Highland Ave. The posting is as follows:
NOTICE (in black on yellow background)
 TRUCK (normal black on white)
 3187 (KY state route shield)

Is this new with MUTCD? Or is it something Kentucky Transportation Cabinet did?

Since I don't have a way to post photos, perhaps bandit957 (if you are reading this) could make a trip over to that area of Ft. Wright and photograph these signs to show a more accurate representation of what is there. Thank you in advance if you are able to help.
I don't need a GPS.  I AM the GPS! (for family and friends)

I would assume that KYTC created the truck route.  Truck routes are not new....

Anyway, I am linking to KY 3187 in Travel Mapping for people to see the road being referred to.

I was asking about the black on yellow NOTICE placard on these signs. I haven't seen any assembly use NOTICE before—usually DETOUR (in black on orange) would be used instead of NOTICE.

In regard to these, I believe I have seen this before, but my brain cannot think of a specific location off the top of my head.

They used a "NOTICE" like that in Maine also when I-495 was demoted to the Falmouth Spur, except the NOTICE part was white on red.

Kentucky uses NOTICE in this context for several purposes, including curve advance warning signs, don't-follow-your-GPS signs, and the like.
Government would be tolerable if not for politicians and bureaucrats.

I never would have seen that without the NOTICE banner.
