This new freeway will run parallel to I-10 west of Downtown Phoenix. With voter approval of Prop 479 last November, funding is in place for its construction and ADOT has begun acquiring right of way. Any news about it should be posted here

Quite sinuous.   Maybe "Serpiente Fwy" might be more fitting.  The eastern terminus is the "Durango Curve" which was one of the original proposals for an I-10 connection, back in the day, before the final decision for the downtown routing, and the tunnel, was made.

Sounds all fine and good as an I-10 reliever....but if they really want to make this effective, they need to freewayize AZ 85 all the way to Gila Bend and create a system free-flow interchange with I-8. Personally, AZ 85 should be folded into any I-11 extension as well.

Any idea what ADOT means by "interim freeway improvements"?

Look at SR 24 for your answer... building the space wide enough for an ultimate interchange

A good reminder that the pavement portion of a freeway is very cheap. It's the bridges needed to ensure controlled access that are the real cost item.

Someone else on this forum noted that this and the Alvin Freeway in Houston are the last 2 new freeways planned to be built in the cores of major urban areas in the United States. This one was made viable because flooding issues along the Salt River made it undesirable for developers.

Remember viewing some fairly ambitious widening projects on the E-W Broadway surface arterial six or seven years ago.   If these were extended W, would this (Tres Rios) even be necessary?

I believe this is the plan, even if I-11 doesn't duplicate a certain 2di from Tucson to Nogales.

I-11 (Hassayampa Fwy) is very porky south of Morristown / Wittmann.   I'd still try and find a way to send it down Grand Avenue.  Direct Overlay.   If that can't be done - end it at Loop 303 or 101 (better) and call it a day.

I probably wouldn't consider Lafayette and Shreveport in Louisiana to be major urban areas, but there are still plans as far as I know for Interstate 49 to be built through the inner core of those cities. Lafayette as part of the Lafayette Connector segment of I-49 South to NOLA, and Shreveport as part of the gap filler between I-20 and I-220. But, it is getting very rare to see new urban core freeway projects.

Since AR Loop 303 is planned to ultimately be extended south of I-10 in Goodyear to connect to AZ 30, I'd have no issue with I-11 routed on a US 60/Grand Avenue-Loop 303-AZ 30-AZ 85 routing to end at I-8 near Gila Bend. Anything south of there is needless pork: I-8, I-10, and I-19 is more than adequate.

I believe the center segment will be built first: https://azdot.gov/sites/default/files/media/2020/07/H6876_SR30_Final_LDCR.pdf. Although exit numbers haven't been assigned yet, I hope AZ 30 has numbers based on actual mileage, not based on the numbering assigned on some other roadways (e.g. Interstate 17 and Loop 303).
