Maryland SHA just put these up today. I'm pretty observant I guess. Anyway, the topper is MUTCD D6-4a in the Md. 2011 edition. I've never seen one of these before.

I was discussing this earlier with mdroads and here are a few talking points:

  • Odd use of the white on brown Clearview, in lieu of a MD 139 shield
  • Mike pointed out that the D6-4a is so small that a passing motorist may not even notice it
  • This section isn't that old or historic IMO. It is a dual carriageway arterial built during the post WW2 suburban sprawl push
What are your thoughts? Any other installations around the country?

NJ 29. I'll edit my post when I find the sign with the scenic byways banner.

Found one, without an NJ 29 shield though...

EDIT: Looks like there isn't an installation with an NJ 29 shield. Odd. I remember seeing one too...
Life would be boring if we didn't take an offramp every once in a while

Historic and Clearview are kind of opposites...

Nice! It looks good there with the widths all matching.

I've seen these in Kentucky and several other states.
Government would be tolerable if not for politicians and bureaucrats.

Florida has them in a few places; this photo in St. Augustine is from July 2006.
