Just got back from this trip:

-  I'm heading to Washington State and British Columbia the next five days.  I'm not really charting any new territory for me in Seattle, but wife wants to see a concert.  Some parts of urban British Columbia will be new for me, but this is primarily a trip for my wife to see Vancouver.  I do plan on taking her to North Cascades National Park so WA 20/North Cascades Highway will be nice to visit again.  I'll probably try out WA 11 and some Old US 99 stuff around Bellingham.

The photo yield was pretty high and has a lot more urban highway stuff than I usually do.  The trip album can be found here:

Where was that double-decker section? The Aurora Bridge?

Yes, Troll Avenue underneath the bridge.

How come you don't set up the iPhone to geotag your photos? That would give you an excuse for not labeling the photos.

Chews up additional battery life that I can't spare.  Besides, my Flickr account is pretty much just a third backup of my photos which at some point end up in Gribblenation articles and Facebook page.  I actually picked the article cover photos while at warranty appointment for my car today.  I'm working on scheduling them on Facebook right now.

When I'm out road-geeking, I'm always recording a GPS log with my phone, so the GPS is running all the time. But when I'm in the car, I keep the phone connected to a USB port, so that solves the battery life problem.

I don't use a mount with my phone.  I have it set to photos and just double tap the screen to open the camera up immediately.  I tried a long USB (from the car charging port and a portable battery) but it interferes with how I hold the phone and being able to hit  the camera button with my thumb.

I almost always have my phone in airplane mode while photo taking.  It saves a lot of battery life and I'm really not sure if it would interfere with the device marking a location via GPS?

One thing I usually do that I didn't with these photos is break them into smaller albums with a more focused topic.  I started out with about 1,500 photos before I culled them down to the 839 in the album.  Typically with road photos I use a 2-3 shot burst and use the best photo that comes from it.

I generally use 1.3x zoom as it usually is enough to get through any remaining windshield glare not covered by a black cloth (an ironed $3 black Walmart pillow case).  On this trip I had to use 1.4x zoom given the angle of windshield on the GMC Terrain I driving was steep.

A long time ago I used to use a digital camera but I've found the photo quality difference to be increasingly nominal to cell phones.  The two advantages they had that a phone can seem to replicate is getting better photos at higher zoom and low lighting.
