Quote from: US 12 fan on February 24, 2025, 01:20:06 PMIt looks like they are going to resurface US 12 from Whitewater to where it meets up with Highway 20 and 67 this year. No roundabout plans for that intersection as of yet.

That sucks. I travel a lot between my house in Mukwonago and an office that I have in Fort Atkinson. I'm going to have to do something like CTH-NN to STH-59 to USH-12. Not horrible, but not great either.

Having lived in Fort Atkinson for many years, the best way to get there from Mukwonago is Waukesha County NN to Eagle, WI-59 through Palmyra to Whitewater, Jefferson County U across northern Whitewater, Jefferson County N to Jefferson County M.

Quote from: dvferyance on February 26, 2025, 06:49:53 PMHow many more roundabouts do we need in this state? We have plenty as is.
How many deaths from drivers running red lights are acceptable?
Deaths are going to happen regardless of an intersection being a roundabout or a light or a stop sign. All depends on the physical frame of the intersection if it can handle becoming a roundabout or if it has to be a light. In the case of US 12/Wis 20/Wis 67, since the freeway option for 12 is not happening any time soon, a roundabout would be the correct option.

Agreed. There are very few options that make sense there. A lot of the traffic ends up going from EB 12 to EB 20, therefore having to make a left, crossing WB 12 in the process. Add to that people think that turn signals are optional at the NB 67/WB 12 split, it makes it fairly dangerous to make that turn. As a bonus, it could be designed to eliminate the intersection of WI 20 and WI 67 that's right next to it.

A traffic light would almost be as useless as what's there now.

I did think about having the roundabout right in the middle of the curve as a 3 point roundabout with keeping the Wis 20/67 intersection as is. Traffic coming off the roundabout onto 20 East or 67 North would be going slow enough to warrant the stop signs only being needed for 67 Southbound and 20 Westbound. I'll play around with the design on the weekend.

And even if/when the 'Corner Cut' is built, IMHO, that intersection would still very much rate a roundabout.

I'll add this here, since it sort of fits.

The US-12 reconstruction from WI-59 in Whitewater to WI-67/WI-20 east of La Grange has been completed. They did a very nice job. New asphalt, shoulder, guard rails, and some new signage. It's a very nice drive now!

But still no roundabout at that WI 20/67 intersection?  If there was a 'natural' place for one anywhere in Wisconsin . . .

Maybe someone should fire an e-mail to the DOT and ask if they could look into the possibility of constructing a roundabout at US 12/STH 20/STH 67.

My understanding is that there's not enough ROW there to build one. The story I heard (and it could very well be wrong) is that the person that owns the structure on that little triangle of land has been fighting WisDOT for years.

Again, this is all 3rd party unverified info, though it does sound pretty plausible.

Sounds like WI needs some stronger eminent domain laws. :D

Out of curiosity, I looked it up and it looks like property taxes haven't been paid in years.

My guess is that it wouldn't take much for WIDOT to get this site if they really wanted it.

I wish! Other than the current one, nothing much has changed. I do have to say that it's usually not too bad during the week when I find myself driving that way. Since the construction, I have grown to enjoy the 59->U->N route. I have towers in Cold Spring that I can check on before heading to the office in Fort (it's actually Koshkonong), so I can take M to 12 and jog over to Hackbarth to get there.
