To further add, they got a bunch of flashing signs, speed reduction markings (the ones that get closer and closer as you approach the end of them), and as of recently, speed limit markings on the pavement. The only thing I wish they did was a raised crosswalk and/or RRFB, but there would be a valid concern regarding cost and fire brigade access. https://maps.app.goo.gl/LFVc4dJiBnGyedfbA

Other end of 15 zone, outside of school zone: https://maps.app.goo.gl/ErU8npBPqb6RBWRj9
I can drive 55 ONLY when it makes sense.

That was fast, yep!

This is Wattendorf Memorial Highway within the semi-public areas of Arnold AFB, TN. It was lowered from 55 to 40 in this section in 2009 (partially due to a resurfacing project, partially due to safety concerns at the gates), but it was re-increased to 55 in early 2010 after a change in command. Grade-school me SOMEHOW was one of the voices favorable of restoring the previous limit  It now is only 40 by the gate junctions (and recently, it's only 40 on a part time basis with flashers).

Apparently the original hope was 65, but such a limit would be unprecedented for the state. but apparently the clear zone was too small for 65. (Corrected)

65 is quite unlikely, I don't believe that Tennessee posts over 55 on 2 lane roads.

Yep. Despite 65 being the legal default speed limit, no 2-lane road in the state is above 55. While this was on a military installation that's technically not subject to the state's preferences, in this case it would have a) been unprecedented and b) caused a spillover issue at the intersections of the 2 gates (65>55>40 is far more drastic than 55>40 alone). Plus, it was 55 before the resurfacing project anyway.

CORRECTION: apparently the clear zone was too small for 65, but was ok for 55.

I don't feel comfortable posting legally as I work for the DOT. I just LOVE to guess!

Why would your employer care about this? It's not like you are encouraging people to break said limit.

It's valid to be concerned about this kind of thing, to be fair...

I'll take care of the next one. This one may have changed but both GSV and records (apparently) confirm it... as obvious, signs in the field override what may be posted here should this have changed. :coffee:
