Very quiet Santa Ana wind season here in Los Angeles. And the first winter-type rain storm on its way next week, dipping temps into the 60s? That's VERY early.

We did get our really bad wildfires in early January this past year though (80F weather right after New Years), so our summer-type temps are still inevitable.

It's 59 degrees and sunny today, but the Long Weekend's weather isn't looking so good.

The first big winter storm is expected to hit the central Sierra this Monday through Wednesday.  The higher parts from Carson Pass down through Yosemite could see as much as 3 feet of snow.

The higher passes including Ebbetts, Sonora and the Tioga Road through Yosemite will certainly close for the storm, and the question then becomes whether Caltrans gets them reopened, or possibly just leaves them closed until declaring them fully closed for the winter, which usually happens in early to mid November.  Summer hikers and campers are gone; most of the recreationists up there at this time of year are hunters, and they will head for lower elevations.

The weather is turning cold and wet early this year.  I wasn't looking forward to running in that 1-inch rain overnight Monday through Tuesday morning.  That being the case, I went out and knocked it out today.  At least I won't be on work travel during this storm.  One of the last big ones got me stranded due to flood out in Monterey in 2023.

50s and very rainy today. A storm is coming through.
