Welcome to the intermission period at the end of Season 5. The next day with criteria specified for a photo challenge will be November 1. In the meantime, feel free to post retrospectives, catch-up posts, discussion items, and summaries. I thought I would take this opportunity to share what I am considering for photo challenges in 2026. I welcome any discussions of these ideas or the proposition of any ideas of your own for number-based photo challenges.

Season 7 (January-February 2026): Post a highway junction where a US route meets a state route, wherein one route's number ends in X and the other route number ends in Y.
Season 8 (March-April 2026): Post a highway junction where a US route meets a state route, wherein one route has an X in the tens place and the other route has a Y in the tens place.
Season 9 (May-June 2026): Post a highway junction in a state bordering your state, wherein one route's number ends in X and the other route number ends in Y.
Season 10 (July-August 2026): Post a highway junction in a state bordering your state, wherein one route's number has X in the tens place, and the other route has Y in the tens place.
Season 11 (September-October 2026): Post a highway junction Post a highway junction where a route with a specific number meets an exit with another specific number, where one number ends in X and the other number ends in Y
Season 12 (November-December 2026): Post a highway junction where a route with a specific number meets an exit with another specific number, wherein one number has X in the tens place, and the other number has Y in the tens place.

I like to lean toward incentivizing participation, because the goal in my mind is to get people to show each other their pictures. I want to see photos! So I like to keep the challenges on the easy side. On that note, even though the challenges are dreamed up from an American perspective, I want to make it clear that international participation is encouraged. As a general rule, whenever the word "state" appears in the criteria, the word state can be replaced with "province" or any other political area that's a subdivision of the country's total area. "Interstate" can be replaced with any non-American highway that's part of a nationwide system of expressways or motorways. "US highway" can be replaced with any non-American highway that's part of a nationwide system of highways not required to be expressways or motorways. These replacement definitions can be used for any of the challenges in this thread. Again, I am welcome to any questions or suggestions on how to change things.

QuoteNovember 1: Post the junction of an Interstate and a route of a different type, where both routes involved have a number with a 0 in the tens place.

Welcome to Season 6! The tens place of the route number is specified for each route in a pair that intersects, and the intersection must involve an Interstate** and a route of a different type.

**Interstate can be replaced by a route belonging to a national or continental system of expressways or motorways in a different country, and a junction can qualify as long as one route at that junction is part of that system, and another route has a different type.
