Our next installment in the "Virtual Tour" series is scheduled to take place on Sunday (12/10) at 3 PM ET. Come join me and members of the AARoads community as we profile Interstate 70 across western Colorado and the Denver metro area and discuss the history and features of this highway all while enjoying a real-time video trip along the length of one of America's most scenic stretches of the Interstate Highway System.

A link to the event location can be found below and we look forward to seeing you in attendance:

The Frisco to Silverthorne aux. lane project has wrapped up with the next project being dubbed the Exit 203 Project in Frisco.

QuoteIf split into two phases, the first phase would focus on replacing the existing roundabout with a traffic signal
Outstanding - the actual elimination of a roundabout!

I think as we mature more we're going to find roundabouts are good in some places and others not so much. Personally I prefer traffic signals but I can see benefits of roundabouts.

I was just up there yesterday. The Silverthorne/Frisco I-70 stretch is great.

Even on a Tuesday, there was a bit of a backup from WB I-70 to SB CO9.

I've mostly used that roundabout in very early morning when I would head to hike south of Breckenridge. It works great at 4am, but I could see it being inadequate for peak hours.
So many miles and so many roads

One of the last times I used that roundabout I almost got creamed by someone coming off the WB 70 ramp who refused to yield!

BTW, I always thought that "Frisco Breckenridge" would be a great character name in a western:

"I hear Frisco Breckenridge is on the next train into town".

The ones on Moorland Rd in New Berlin WI are a nightmare and it's only going to get worse. While they do work in some places that aren't suitable everywhere.

Next year, we'll finally get to see the real footprint of this project, which will be very impressive! I'm happy Colorado is undertaking this endeavor. Hopefully this is the standard of the entire I-70 corridor throughout the whole state.

Vail Pass is coming around nicely.  Still another warm season to go on road work, but the new Rest Area at the top of the pass is at least done and open.

Nice! I drove through it in the early summer and it was coming along nicely. I also follow their Facebook page, which is a good page to follow if you haven't followed it yet. I believe they have wrapped up for the winter season. From what I read, they are on pace to finish next year.

This article talks about various projects around the state for the new 10yr plan but highlights several projects on I-70 in the mountains including a concrete pavement project in Glenwood Canyon:

I never understood why they didn't go all-concrete lanes when Glenwood Canyon was first constructed.  The asphalt sections (mostly in the EB lanes) barely last a few years before they need to be worked on again.  The WB trip through the canyon is nicer since is way more concrete ‐‐ as a lot is elevated.

Silt and New Castle needs to rebuild and expand the bridges over I-70 and the parallel railroad.

One exit in GarCo that is not mentioned is the Parachute/Battlement Mesa exit.  The traffic lights are poorly timed, but that's because the bridges over I-70 and the railroad allow very little space for traffic to make left turns.  Especially now that the new Love's draws a LOT of semi traffic onto the narrow 2-lane bridges.  I'm surprised they didn't make Love's pay for part of the widening and imterchange improvements before they could get their truck stop.

Yeah, hopefully the concrete holds up and proves itself. I think they just rebuilt the road through Pagosa Springs with concrete. US-50?

US160 is probably what you're thinking about. US84 also meets there, but I'm unaware of any work on that.

Yep. That's it. Not sure how I ended up there. I wasn't even aware of that place existed. I was on US-50 and I just decided to take a different route and I went through that town and fell in love with it and then ended up staying there a few days. Awesome place. And then I saw on one of the Colorado DOT's Facebook page that they were doing a pavement replacement project on the main street through downtown with concrete. I think it's finished or close to being finished. I'm not sure if they continue working on it during the winter season though.

The project through Idaho Springs, which I'm guessing is the Floyd Hill project I'm not sure has an update and is scheduled to wrap up in 2029:
