Known for his roles in Lizzie McGuire, Max Keeble's Big Move, and Escape from LA, Robert Carradine committed suicide earlier today, February 24. He had been battling bipolar disorder for more than 20 years.

Quote"It is with profound sadness that we must share that our beloved father, grandfather, uncle, and brother Robert Carradine has passed away. In a world that can feel so dark, Bobby was always a beacon [of] light to everyone around him," the family said in a statement. "We are bereft at the loss of this beautiful soul and want to acknowledge Bobby's valiant struggle against his nearly two-decade battle with Bipolar Disorder. We hope his journey can shine a light and encourage addressing the stigma that attaches to mental illness."

I suppose I also have to mention Revenge of the Nerds, though I would rather not for reasons that have nothing to do with Carradine and everything to do with the writing of that film and the heinous rape scene.

On two other fora I saw today, the posts said "RIP Lewis Skolnick."
"You know, you never have a guaranteed spot until you have a spot guaranteed."
—Olaf Kolzig, as quoted in the Washington Times on March 28, 2003,
commenting on the Capitals clinching a playoff spot.

"That sounded stupid, didn't it?"
—Kolzig, to the same reporter a few seconds later.

Pretty sad, terrible news. Carradine was great in The Cowboys. He had a small role in Mean Streets. He was funny as hell in Revenge of the Nerds. It was hard to believe one of his older brothers was the guy from the Kung Fu TV series and later Kill Bill. The whole Carradine family was pretty accomplished in Hollywood.

I wonder what kind of treatment Robert Carradine was getting for his bipolar disorder and how severe his condition was.

One of my best friends has a wife who has battled bipolar disorder for the past 20 or so years. The doctors have to periodically adjust her medication to keep her stable. With no medication her brain could go into overdrive and keep her awake for several days straight til she crashes. The danger is after so much time without sleep you lose your grip on reality and can start doing illogical or even dangerous things.

None of the news stories I had seen on TV or online mentioned Carradine committing suicide; this thread is the first I've heard of it. In a somewhat related story Martin Short's daughter Katherine was found dead from what investigators say was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

If this is true, then it's Robin Williams in 2014 all over again.
