Either someone doing some trolling or some really tech-illiterate boomer managed to accidentally screw-up trying to do a google search or two.
May or may not be batticorn.

I also collect traffic lights, road signs, fans, and railroad crossing equipment.

I don't think it's legit to begin with.  It's just a local artist's double-wide.

Google Maps now sometimes defaults to globe view even when that box is not checked.  So I'll check that I'm not stuck in globe view, see the box is unchecked and think I'm fine, only to find out later that I'm not.  I despise the animation (and the extra time it takes) they put on entering/exiting street view in globe view, so I try to avoid it like the plague.

I think it depends on zoom level, doesn't it? Like, at the furthest zoom levels it uses globe view, and then at some point it transitions to Mercator.

Google Maps is doing some tie-in with Dua Lipa which results in a pop-up saying "check out Dua Lipa's [location] list on Google Maps" ever single time you pan near an affected location.

Google My Maps is no longer able to create driving, biking, or walking routes by clicking on a starting point, then intermediate waypoints, and finally double-clicking the ending point. Huge bug, which makes it utterly useless to me. Hopefully that's all it is, and they'll fix it.

That had been happening to me as well, for about a month. I'd have to check the box to turn on globe view, even though it was already on, and then uncheck it to turn it off. It's stopped in the past few days, though, for whatever reason.

This bothers me too. I'm not exactly sure who Dua Lipa is, but I am sure that our tastes don't align that much.

Me either.  Based on her name, I assume she has two lips.

But that's the thing: other than the fact that they rarely fixed bugs, it doesn't suck. It's a pretty amazing piece of software. Have you tried web Google Earth or mobile Google Earth? They're shitware. Mobile is only accessible through touch, which immediately rules out the ability to do anything that requires precisely pointing down at the pixel level. And who wants to look at the Earth on a 6" phone screen? The web version doesn't let you create a tree-structured My Places equivalent, where you have a checkbox at each node to determine what's visible. I imported My Places from Google Earth Pro, and it shows everything all at once, which is completely useless. Breaking it into smaller "projects" only gives you one level of tree structure, whereas I often go three deep.

Even if it turns out not to work under Windows 12, whenever that appears, I can keep a virtual Windows 10 machine for Google Earth Pro. What I'm worried about is Google turning off the servers used specifically by Google Earth Pro, which may be different from the servers used by the web and mobile versions.

How unfortunate.  I've used Google Earth Pro for work and I feel like half the stuff Google Earth desktop could do for free requires a subscription for the web version.

Judging by her pics, I think she may have a little more than two lips, maybe 2.1 or 2.2? But at least they're not the full fish lips.

Well, that explains why they're getting rid of it.

It looks to me like the things they're offering, for fairly high (>$100/month) fees, aren't things that were in there for free before. But they're also things of interest only to a very small market of particular kinds of businesses. The things that we would be losing would be tools of much more general usefulness. Personally, if that's their motivation, I'd be less pissed at them if they offered to continue GE Pro support for a monthly fee, than if they killed it off completely. I think over $100 a month wouldn't raise much money from non-business users, but I'd certainly pay at least $30, given how much time I spent hammering their servers.

Looks like they're blocking all but the most basic things behind needing a Google account, too.  And you have to create a project to view layers.  What if you just want to browse something without creating a project?  As someone who despises "throwaway files" and very strongly prefers to not link browsing to accounts, this is ridiculous!
