There was another public meeting this week for the PA-NJ Turnpike Connector Delaware River Bridge. Scroll down on https://www.paturnpike.com/traveling/construction/site/delaware-river-bridge/engagement to view the various materials presented.

For those disliking the current trend of cable-stayed bridges, there's some good news for you. The preliminary alternative bridge design as of now is a tied arch.

About 700 foot main span per Google Maps review and the conceptual design.

A 700‑ft span could be a tied arch, concrete arch like VA 895, or cable‑stayed like the Goethals.

A 700‑ft main span is too long for a conventional girder, too short to -require- cable‑stayed, and right in the sweet spot for a tied arch.

There are the real, modern examples --
Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge (Washington, DC, 2021)
A triple‑arch tied‑arch system, each span about 450–500 ft.
One of the most prominent recent U.S. tied‑arch projects.

Quote from: roadman65 on June 09, 2026, 01:59:47 PMWhats up with the Tacony Palmayra Bridge no longer using the bidirectional center lane?

According to GSV the center lane is 24/7 Philadelphia Bound and only one lane at all times into New Jersey.

What do you mean by 'no longer using'? The bridge was built with four lanes then reduced to three (always 2+1) when the deck was reconstructed.
