That widening segment is stopping at Howe? It's too bad the project can't go the rest of the way into Sherman. Hopefully they'll have that last segment of 2x2 road scheduled to upgrade soon.

It is stopping in Howe because that's the end of the segment completed around 2005. I guess they will do the section from FM 902 to FM 1417 at once as a 3x3.

Multiple construction projects on US-75 between Melissa and the Oklahoma state line. You know that section between Melissa and the North Collin County line? They migrated the traffic to the newly constructed eastern half of the freeway and have torn up the western half.

Sigh... only a year or two more before completion.
Wenn du siehst, dass ich renne, versuch dranzubleiben!
I solemnly swear that I am up to no good.

Something you guys are missing. Melissa is in Collin County, Van Alstyne is on the county line.

Collin County is in the Dallas TxDOT District. North of Van Alstyne is Grayson County. Grayson County is in the Paris TxDOT District.

This is a very pertinent point.
Let's build what we need as economically as possible.

Came up 75 from Dallas yesterday. The construction from Sherman north was hot and heavy. I did not realize they removed the existing interchange with TX503 and are replacing it with what looks like a standard diamond interchange. I did not see any evidence of flyover ramps at the US82 interchange. Are any planned?
When you come to a fork in the road... TAKE IT.

There are no planned flyovers sadly. Would been if they were added to the intersection of heritage Parkway the outer loop of Sherman.
Wake me up when there new info on PGBT EAST BRANCH!

They should have keep some ROW to add some flyovers later or it would became another problem down the road like the US-281/I-410 junction in San Antonio and still they menaged to put a stack interchange there despite the few ROW available. https://www.texashighwayman.com/281-410-hist.shtml

Yeah, there are too many properties built into the corners of the US-75/US-82 interchange to build any flyover ramps in the immediate future. Those interchange corners have been used up going back at least to the 1990's if not earlier.

On the bright side, none of the properties at the corners of the US-75/US-82 interchange are what I would consider "high value" businesses. Two Casey's conveniences stores are on the South corners. A car wash is in the NW corner. A building holding Verizon & Stanton Optical stores is on the NE corner. I think those would be fairly easy to buy and remove via eminent domain.

Obviously TX DOT will finish the upgrade work on the thru US-75 lanes before any talk of interchange flyover ramps takes place. A stack interchange will be needed at this location at some point in the not too distant future. Along with US-75 being upgraded, I figure US-82 will be widened to a 3x3 lanes configuration thru the interchange as a next step. They may start building the planned interchange connection on US-75 for the Grayson County Tollway in Denison, even if it only connects to an interim Super 2 road. All of that stuff may happen before they improve the US-75/US-82 interchange from a volleyball configuration to a full 5-level stack.

I just don't see a full stack at 75/82 for quite a while just from a cost perspective as well as the fact this is in TxDOT's Paris district, which almost by definition is well under the funding radar.

Bobby5280

Sherman may be in the TX DOT Paris district, but the small city is pretty much an "exhurb" of the DFW metroplex now. US-75 thru Sherman is a major commercial trucking corridor. The US-82 corridor is getting more significant as both a regional North bypass of DFW and a corridor to serve the Lake Texoma area.

I don't expect the US-75/US-82 interchange to be upgraded with directional flyover ramps anytime soon. But as both the US-82 and US-75 corridors continue to be improved and as growth in the DFW metro continues to spread Northward the upgrades to that interchange will be forced to be built. They may only build a couple of ramps at a time, piece-meal style.

Bids were opened this week for widening US 75 to 6 lanes from FM 902 (north side of Howe) to FM 1417 (Heritage Parkway in Sherman), about 4.7 miles.

Looking at the plans, this adds a new shoulder to the main lanes from FM 902 to north of Shepherd (converting the existing shoulder to a traffic lane, around 1.7 miles). North of Shepherd to Sherman is a complete rebuild.

Estimate: $173.2 million

Low bid: RPM XConstruction, $155.6 million

That will take out the last remaining bit of original 1960s concrete on the entirety of 75 North.

TxDOT has a press release about completion of expansion of the last section in Collin County

QuoteThe Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is set to celebrate final completion of the $80 million US 75 Last Mile Project in Anna, between County Road 370 to the Grayson County line.

The "Last Mile" refers to the one-mile final stretch of US 75 in Collin County that's a part of a decades-long effort to relieve congestion along the corridor.

Improvements include full reconstruction and widening from a rural four-lane highway to six lanes (three in each direction), conversion of two-way frontage roads into one-directional frontage roads and full reconstruction of the Mantua Road / CR 371 cross-street bridge.

Awesome! Now can they fix the congestion around the FM 455 interchange in Anna?

They should have built Texas U-turns when they rebuilt the overpass, but since FM 455 goes over 75 it would have been much more expensive. The solution here would be a SPUI.

They build turnarounds all the time on overpasses.

Sherman city leaders have said in local media that they want to campaign for interstate status for US 75, once the construction work going on there is complete.

Although I would definitely support extending Interstate 45 northward into Oklahoma, the likelihood of it happening is slim to none. I will believe it when I see it.

What about an I-44 type of setup that has I-45 go as far as US 82 in Sherman (which their city leaders might like initially) or US 70 in Durant (which those running the Choctaw casino might like)?

I'm more optimistic. It's the logical thing.

The Ghostbuster

I would support renumbering the Exit 20-75 sequential exit numbers, even converting all of US 75's exit numbers to be a continuation of Interstate 45's (and Interstate 345's) exit numbers.

Here is the thing people who have never been to north Texas miss here. With some minor exceptions, this is purely a signage issue. There are a few variances, but overall, the road is already up to the standards. Except for the part through Sherman (which has recently been fully upgraded) it has been fully limited access and mostly up to interstate standards for around 40 years. There are ongoing widening projects in Collin and Grayson counties but that is upgrading the freeway from 2x2 to 3x3 or more.

I really don't know why you chose US-82 as the potential endpoint. US-69 seems like a more complete point out just south of the state line.

Bingo. I've been on several new interstates in the past couple years and keep seeing road designs nowhere close to modern "interstate standards" as US 75 currently is. Once this construction is over, the campaign for I-45 will almost certainly begin. Denison, Sherman, and the Grayson County MPO are all on board.

Once the TxDOT work is complete, all that's left for extending I-45 to US 70 in Durant would be a 5.5-mile unimproved stretch between Colbert and Calera on the Oklahoma side. A few businesses close to the road, but frontage roads here look pretty straightforward.
