Satellite imagery has been released by Vantor of the unprecedented disaster that took place on the Nepal-China border yesterday.

The border crossing has been completely washed away, including large buildings and concrete structures.

The assessment downstream in Nepal is that 19 bridges across this river have been destroyed and some 40 kilometers of roads have been washed away, including large sections of urbanized riverside. The death toll is likely to be considerably higher than the 'hundreds' reported today.

Most of the road in this area (NH18 & NH42) are located higher on the mountainside, so road destruction is partial.

This area is relatively close to Kathmandu, the river valley is only 25 kilometers northwest of Kathmandu and the border crossing is 60 kilometers north of Kathmandu. This makes helicopter evacuation somewhat more viable due to short turnaround times.

The Chinese border area of Gyirong is extremely remote, it's a 4 hour drive to get to the nearest G-road and 14 hours to Lhasa.

A Japanese expert said that satellite images reveal that the flood / debris flow left damage scars as high as 800 meters above the valley floor in one location 7 kilometers from the point of origin. It is also observed that the tsunami-like flood traveled 2.5 kilometers upstream into China at that border crossing.

The border crossing is at a Y-junction of two valleys. It is located at an elevation of 1,800 meters. A landslide destroyed the Chinese road to the border crossing in 2025, Google Earth from January 2026 shows significant construction in that area to restore the road.

That has to be one of the saddest videos I've ever watched.

You can't really see the border checkpoint building wiped out as the water and mud covers the view.  There is video of the parking garage getting demolished along with the vehicles contained within being thrown everywhere.  The truss bridge that got wiped out in Bidur has GSV images.

I posted two satellite photos (before & after). Can you view those, or is imgur also blocked in the U.S.?

I can see those.  I meant the videos floating around on the news and YouTube.
