That detestable group can't appreciate a weird or unique sign.  Hard core MUTCD adherents, NUMTOTS and safety nerds aren't exactly the company I like to find myself in.

Wait, if OR 227 was decommissioned, why did I clinch it? :(

If ODOT wanted to signpost the Highways, that state outline shield would work well. The Routes, on the other hand, should retain the teardrop shield -- preferably cutout.

In your defense, I've driven on Tiller-Trail Hwy a couple times since the 2012 relinquishment, and the Jackson Co segment was still signed as OR 227 those times, so I also thought the route designation still existed.

But I just did a quick check on ODOT's Route-to-Hwy Cross Reference Table, and sure enough, 227 no longer appears on it. So I guess it is officially kaput.

That said, you shouldn't consider it a total waste of time. I've driven on a number of ex-highways and old alignments out of sheer curiosity over the years. It's still interesting to see the old routes & highways. And that is a pretty scenic drive, highway or not.

More to the point, I've yet to verify that the Jackson County portion is decommissioned and needs to be pulled from Travel Mapping.

I wonder if it will be given a Jackson County route number, since it's now County Route 1 in Douglas.

I'd have to actually take another in state drive to do that :(

As far as I'm concerned, it's been done for a few weeks now, since they shifted all the traffic back to the normal roadways. Just mop up work since then.

Nice to see an ODOT project come in under budget. Now if that extra lane could magically extend all the way to Eugene ....

It'd be great to see a phased approach extending 6 lanes all the way down to SR 34, the traffic going abruptly from 75-80 to 15-35 near Albany is always jarring.

I'm probably in the minority here but I'd rather have hourly trains between Eugene and Portland than a six-lane I-5 from OR 34 to the Beltline. I mean, I'd rather have both, but if I had to choose where the state puts its money for that part... I'd rather it serve the entire corridor with a regular option for folks to avoid the drive.

The five week closure of southbound I-5 through Rose Quarter finished a week early, and has been reopened.

I was glad to hear this. I was avoiding Portland during the duration of the closure.

I end up driving across the Ross Island Bridge pretty regularly. For the first few days of the closure, traffic actually seemed better there, but later on it got worse. I suspect at first, people were avoiding driving in general, or they were all diverting to I-205 South -> I-84 West to get around the closure and still arrive in central Portland. Then as that clogged, people found alternate E-W routes south of I-84.

I found myself on a bike on N Interstate Ave parallel to the closure on one morning, and I was flying by stopped traffic there.

ODOT is saying to expect a similar closure on I-5 NB next year.

That one will probably be nastier for traffic.

I don't know why, but I feel the opposite. I guess my thinking is, northbound traffic will move over to the 405 and 84-bound traffic won't have to deal with the Marquam weave. Maybe if the I-5 north ramp from I-84 is closed, that could be gnarly.

That's most likely what will happen, even if said traffic is forced off at Broadway. Most likely, even that will be closed, and traffic pushed onto the ramp behind the Convention Center.
