I hate this stuff, it makes diesel look bad, and get a reputation for being dirty. Diesel exhaust just has a different smell, but when you combine that different odor with this stuff...in people's minds it looks like the diesel is extra dirty compared to gasoline. The only time a diesel should smoke is at startup, where a little puff is all that occurs, and on newer engines with emissions controls (that they bypass illegally to get this effect by the way) it doesn't happen at all.

Those of you who go "oh diesel is dirty and smelly" listen up. Diesel exhaust contains more Oxides of Nitrogen (NOX) than gasoline, but everything else is lower, a diesel blowing out smoke is like a gasoline engine running so rich it has a haze of exhaust behind it, where the unburnt fuel burns your eyes.

Extraordinarily childish behavior with these morons.

Mr. Matté

I thought they only do that to protest the cyclists on the roads that delay them by 3 seconds...

This sort of thing makes me feel like we deserve the stupid political culture we have.  People complain about how Congress behaves, but look at we who elect them and it all makes sense.

When politicians and their (un-)associated advertising start taking the high road, let me know so I can use my time machine to get there.

The irony when these folks bitch about their dwindling fuel economy and how much they pay at the pump...don't get me wrong, I cane my car at times, but I keep my mouth shut over it all.

why is this suddenly news?  I read about it about 6 months ago, filed it away as a curiosity, similar to "butt-chugging" or the modern Republican party... and now the "news" of it is fucking everywhere.

people are idiots.  disregard them.

Diesel engines, especially on large trucks, have unfortunately been viewed as inefficient in the public eye. An anti-Affordable Care Act advertisement was shown before SteveG's Youtube video, focusing on an ambulance covered with carnival-style markings. While the advertisement would be otherwise irrelevant, the ambulance was portrayed as belching diesel smoke down a residential street, not unlike the truck in the actual video. Diesel smoke is clearly portrayed as unacceptable to the same extent that a carnival crew acting as doctors would be unacceptable. Ironically, the advertisement comparing intentionally inefficient diesel engines to the Affordable Care Act may not be the message the advertiser wanted to convey to the likely political audience that associates with "rolling coal".

I would assume belching diesel smoke under normal road conditions would be sufficient to establish probable cause for an emissions inspection where one is required, if police were willing to act on this crime.

Only if my car leaves traces of bubble gum where it doesn't belong.

That was a coincidence, the advert. I use adblock on firefox, so i didn't get to see it.

here I thought that word was "hoon".

Equivalent word..."cane" came to mind first.

I always think of "hoon" implies others are watching, and "cane" might mean for one's own enjoyment.
