This is Tennessee. Nothing Changes.

what kind of demountable copy is that on the Nashville sign?  looks like Scotchlite on individual aluminum elements.

I don't know. I do know that I've seen demountable aluminum reflective letters on green guide signs in TN. The reason it was obvious was that one of the letters was dangling. On all the ones that I've seen, the letters were flat. The sign in the 1972 pic appear to be raised like button copy letters would be.

If the letters in the pic are indeed not button copy, it would be surprising to not see it on a sign that old.

When did TN phase out button copy ? Or did they ever use it?

I'm trying, and failing, to recall Tennessee ever using button copy.  like Kansas, they seem to have gone with this style of demountable copy.  the Scotchlite copy dates back to about 1959.

I'd love for someone to post a pic of the exact same location today with the same zoom and all of that.

This area was just recently modified. A new straight ramp from I-24 westbound was added, and the old loop ramp was removed. Here is my picture taken in 2010, before the change.

The loop ramp is there now, but it is only for use to go westbound on US 72. It was closed for a while during construction of the interchange revamp. The other ramp defaults onto US 64/72 East.

Is the BP station in this picture the site of the former Gulf station?
