Kudos to SDDOT for being willing to spend money to rehab a piece of South Dakota  history. This bridge is the I-90 Business Loop @Chamberlain.

This bridge was actually TWO bridges. One of the bridges was actually at a river crossing called Wheeler. The completion of Fort Randall Dam forced a replacement bridge just below the dam (it carries US18-281), and the old bridge was floated upriver to Chamberlain and attached to the other bridge.

That's good to hear.  I vaguely remember going across those bridges in 1972 as I-90 was not quite finished yet.

I was there last weekend, but didn't know about the renovation work. I got a few photos, but it wasn't easy to do.

BTW: anyone have info on a lost bridge just north of there? I found some abandoned piers, unless that was the 2nd bridge's original location?
