look at that, a classic-shape US 63 shield.  Here is one that is even older and is, in fact, not the classic US shield design.  The Dominion Sign Company out of Virginia had their own ideas on what the US shield was to look like, and stamped out many signs between 1929 and 1934 with this shape.

Had a bunch of 63's to choose from but settled on this one...

Colorado does its level best to pretend that US-87 does not exist at all in the state ... but here is the one place that it is signed.

Denver - I-25 northbound between I-70 and I-76.  This sign is no longer around, but another US-87 shield replaced it several years ago!  For a route that does not exist, CDOT is quite fastidious about maintaining it.

From US 87 back to (California) state route 87...

For some reason, they doubled-down on US-2 reassurance markers for this intersection.

So we're looking for a Historic Trail or an L. Way to play this one into a corner, David :P

OK, how's this?  We stick with Lincoln, and give an IL 33 to play from.

SNAP! I took a picture of the same interchange in Athens, OH last month and the construction was still there.

That fabulous array of signs agentsteel posted no longer exists. On Google Street View the only thing I can see that still remains is the utility pole to the left of the route 32 shield.
