I think this qualifies as unusual:

I think it's patched together by modifying a "Do Not Block Side Road" sign to make the equivalent of "No Parking This Side".

This is taken on Ballston Ave., which is a shortcut along New York 67 in Ballston Spa.

I got one of a similar situation, but this one reaches 20 mph.

And Ian, have you ever seen a teeter-totter symbol on a school sign like me?

Mythbusters showed that a seesaw can launch a kid pretty high if someone jumps onto the other end from a plane. I don't think they calculated the kid's speed, however.

Yes, I did watch that episode!

Here's an unusual one I ran across this past weekend.

There's a big hint in the picture, but can anyone give the circumstance that leads to the signing of a ramp advisory speed of 75 MPH?

electronic toll collection.

I don't know the names of all the transponder authorities, but I remember seeing 75mph ramps on the Will Rogers Turnpike (I-44 in Oklahoma), so that is my guess.

I-44 down near Lawton is this one.  I'm happy to see they are willing to allow full highway speed ETC, but there really is a bit of a curve to get over there and I'm not sure I'd take it at 75.  That, and it's right where us out-of-towners without a transponder are slowing to a stop to hand over our cash.

Given the configuration of that toll plaza, I'd guess that the New York Thruway would sign that ramp and lane at 20 MPH, max.

That episode online?  Wouldn't mind seeing that!

A search for mythbusters seesaw gives at least portions of the episode.

The very first post: On the one with the pentagonal teeter-totter, there's also a stop ahead sign with a very small octagon.

I have seen a chartreuse stop ahead sign, but I don't know how to get photos directly onto a thread. In my roads photo album on Facebook, there is a picture of that stop ahead sign.

Pardon the crappy photo, I took this three years ago in less than useful weather. This obviously hand-made sign is on NY 40 north in Hartford just south of the NY 196 junction. The speed limit does drop, someone helped you realize that.

Since it's ftballfan's photo, his permission should be given first.

you're being a little too damned pedantic today, froggie.

ftballfan has expressed the desire to do so, just not the technical knowhow.

besides, I could probably qualify my viewing of the photo as fair use.

well shit, my apparent inability to parse the word "ahead" has resulted in quite the underwhelming experience.  I had been looking forward to seeing a chartreuse stop sign - basically a bright neon green update of the pre-1954 yellow stop signs with black legend.
