Government would be tolerable if not for politicians and bureaucrats.

The entries are a bit lacking. I'd love to have a small box of information for each of the projects (cost, over/under budget/schedule, number of workers, traffic stats, impact on the community before/during/after construction, etc.) and maybe a short video with before/after shots of the affected areas.

Wow, Connecticut won an award in 2010 -- for a new section of freeway! I know you think I'm making this up, but: http://americastransportationawards.org/past-projects/2010-2/ct-us-route-7-bypass-project/

Washington won two of the minor awards (2008 Large Project — On Time for the new Tacoma Narrows Bridge and 2010 Innovative Management — Small Project for "Operation I-5"). WSDOT hasn't submitted any projects since 2011, though.

WSDOT could probably get an award for the SR 520 Floating Bridge replacement project when it gets completed next year, if they actually submit it.

Do keep in mind that just because a project gets a design award doesn't mean that it won't have issues later on.

Case and point: the mezzanine-level I-476/US 1 interchange in PA received a design award when it first opened in late 1991 but shortly became the scorn of most users due to the traffic signals (not to be confused with ramp meters) and its resulting vehicle back-ups.  The traffic on the exit ramp from I-476 northbound can back up 3/4s of the way up the ramp at times due to the red signals.

I wonder how many of those terrible 50s/60s elevated freeways that sliced up American cities got design awards?

This isn't an election for President.  It's just a fun way to recognize some construction projects, and to put out some good PR.
