In the way too strange category:  I-74 in North Carolina intersects with NC-71, NC-72 and NC-73.  I-74 also intersects (and runs concurrent) with I-73, and also intersects (and runs concurrent) with US-74.  And on the flip side (but doesn't quite qualify), I-73 in North Carolina intersects (and runs concurrent) with I-74 and also intersects NC-73 and US-74.

How about a skip stop approach?  I-74 in North Carolina intersects with NC-62, US-64, NC-66, NC-68, US-70, NC-72, US-74 and US-76.

That's not how chaining works. You want 71 to intersect 72, 72 to intersect 73, and 73 to intersect 74. For skip stopping, N+2 should intersect N.

People need to pay more attention to the word "both" in the thread's title.  We're talking about highway x intersecting highway x-1 and highway x+1.  That's it.
Avatar is the last interesting highway I clinched.

Three seems too common, though. That's why I was looking for four or more.
NH 106-107-108
RI 115-116-117
MA 19-20-21 (yes, I know that's US 20)
VT 14-15-16

I know it's not four, but what's the highest numbered pair that you can find? I've found FL 817 intersecting FL 816 in Sunrise and FL 818 in Davie. Is there any other pair that's higher?

Here's another one in North Carolina:  NC-96 is multiplexed at the Four Oaks interchange with I-95 (Exit 90//US-301/US-701/NC-96), and also intersects NC-97.

I-80 intersects I-79 and I-81 in Pennsylvania
In the next year or two, I-70 will be the second interstate to intersect both the preceding and following interstate numbers, with I-69 meeting it via I-465.

Huh? I-70 intersects I-71 in Ohio. The intersection with I-69 will be in Indiana.
Forgot about the "within a state" in the title for this one, only thinking about roads nationwide under the same quality (interstate-interstate in this case) here.

There's a third one that could fit under this: I-74 meets both I-73 (in NC) and I-75 (in OH).

^ Except I-74 isn't and likely never will be one road.  It's arguably just as much a duplicate as I-86, I-84, I-88, I-76, and I-87.
