Never thought of Amazon closing its bookstores but then again Amazon gets accused of trying to be the next Wal Mart and for killing off the mall.

In Oklahoma City's Classen Curve development, they had an Amazon 4-Star location built out and almost ready to open. Now it never will. What a waste of money.

Never really got what the marketing department was thinking with the 4-Star concept. A theoretical product that explodes 20% of the time could potentially still manage to maintain a 4-star rating.

4-star was a pretty nice concept, in that product inventory was "selected" with crowdsourced ratings. And it did provide me with a decent place to look around at generic gift ideas before I shopped elsewhere, lest I feed the beast with my cash.

Their inventory started getting crappy at the onset of the pandemic, and once they stopped stocking my favorite cheap earbuds I had no reason to stick around. Same goes for the bookstores.

Amazon Go/Fresh is still pretty handy for when I don't want to interact with a cashier and do want to walk around a tech dystopian store. Lotsa cameras in those.

Given how review behavior works, not really.
People are far more likely to post if they have a problem, so assume 90% of those that explode post, but only 10% of those that don't explode post. The result is well less than 4 stars.

Amazon gets accused of a great deal because they are successful and because the press does not really understand what it is trying to report on.
Neither Amazon nor WalMart killed the mall, despite the fact that it is frequently reported one or both did so.
