Vivaldi's picture in picture appears to have been fixed to eliminate the need to pause and then resume the video to avoid the header and gradient being visible all the time.  Now if only they could get it to remember the size and position of the PIP window.

It took until the late afternoon for the AC to kick on for the first time this year.

Quote from: formulanone on May 08, 2026, 07:55:03 PMMy son will leave absolutely no electronics behind but pack two outfits and a jacket; my daughter insists on fifty types of snacks so everyone's happy, a complete meal itinerary, and two weeks of clothes for six days.

Our kids go to church camp every year these days.  A few of the high schoolers are at that age where their parents let them pack their own bags, but then they'll end up at camp with an entire bag full of snacks and zero socks.  And I'm not exaggerating.

Snacks, socks. Close enough. :-D

I've never tried that. It's worked for me in the mornings after I get up, and I don't shower in the mornings.

Few things in life are more frustrating than trying to put on dress socks with damp feet. [/hyperbole]

Honestly, I don't like putting on any clothes when damp.  It's one of the reasons why my morning routine takes so long - because between drying off and doing post-shower stuff in the bathroom and taking time afterwards to let any lingering dampness to dry off and to cool down a bit.  It's usually around 20-30 minutes between when I get out of the shower and when I properly get dressed for the day.

Reaching the time of year when it's warm enough to go barefoot, or otherwise not to need socks, pleases me.

The last couple of times I've mown the lawn, I first filled up a bucket with cool water.  Then, after I've finished up mowing and putting everything away, I've brought the bucket out to the driveway and dunked my head in it for a few seconds.  Wow!  It's amazing how refreshing that feels!  It's like going swimming at the pool or something.

I'll have to try that when it gets warm enough.

The only downside is that, if you don't like getting water up your nose and stuff, it's hard to avoid that.

I had to grill after mowing, too, and that refreshing dunk in the bucket sure helped give me the energy to stay outside and push through the hunger.

One other minor thing that pleased me is that our 11-year-old son wanted to spend time out there with me while I was grilling.  My two-decades-old Weber kettle finally bit the dust as I was preparing to move it from the back porch around to the driveway;  the attachment for one of its legs had rusted out last year, and two others followed suit yesterday.  So he helped me unscrew some wingnuts and such to remove the remaining leg and fit stuff in the trash bin.  Then, after I got the grill situated on some concrete blocks instead, he brought out the matches and lighter fluid.  I made a Tom Collins to sip on the front porch while the coals got going, and he made his own kiddie cocktail (orange Fanta, pineapple juice, grenadine) to have with me.  He brought the burgers out when it was time, held the platter or trash bag or whatever when I needed help.  It was a good time with him.

Simple pleasures, right?

I'm not a particular fan of gate keeping when it comes to things like obscure roads and hiking trails (minor thing that bothers me I suppose).  To that end on our Facebook page people will often complain when we mention something of the like adjacent to Yosemite National Park.  The thing these people don't get is when they comment to complain it tells the Facebook algorithm that there is something engaging about the post.  Essentially by commenting they are only bringing more exposure to the topic they are upset over.

When I pick at the logic of some of the replies people double down on their comments and it creates an even larger engagement feedback loop.  The minor thing that pleases me is that I'm aware of this but nobody else seems to be.  Today it took really a nothing burger post and ended getting a good engagement yield from it.  That money just goes back into seeking out other similar roads and things.

My feet get get dried out too much if I go barefoot for that long.  Plus, having broken my toe, I'm now paranoid about walking around in the house without shoes or slippers.

For today as far as I can tell a couple things:

-  Me bringing awareness to the fact Chowchilla Mountain Road still exists.  I'm gathering that a lot of locals in Mariposa and Oakhurst seem to think it posting about an obscure ungraded dirt road is going to bring in mass amounts of tourists.
-  The fact that I had the audacity to drive Chowchilla Mountain Road (a public highway).
-  The fact that I pointed out Chowchilla Mountain Road is one of historically "free" entrances into Yosemite.  It might be a shunpike but it sure as hell isn't an easy one.

Heh.  I mean, drawing people to somewhere unprepared for an influx is a concern but...yeah.  I suppose we all exaggerate our possible audiences.

(Gribblenation needs to adjust their settings so you can sort the comments of posts...Meta screwed that up recently... :D)

If was some "famous influencer" I could perhaps seem more cause for concern.  I doubt many tourists looking for an Instagram worthy Yosemite experience are going to say, "We need to try that Chowchilla Mountain Road that the Gribblenation guy went into extensive historical detail on."  About 65% of our Facebook page audience is from a three-hour radius of Yosemite and people who were commenting clearly are at least minimally familiar with the road.

Unfortunately, I don't think that I have much control over the viability of the search features on Meta/Facebook platforms.  That has been long documented by others as being really poorly designed.  If I could act to make it more user friendly on our page I would.
