For some reason, I had a months-long brain fart that I'd set up a user name here, then didn't commence regular use.     .... or, maybe I should have had much more :coffee: :coffee: :coffee: !!!

Anyway, better late than never, huh?

I've had mixed luck with websites, webhosts, and cars to go take pix with, but hopefully my current car situation will improve, a new scanner can get my old pix going again, and I guess some $$$ for a little something online.

I've liked maps and collected them since not too far from birth...one of my treasures is a State Farm road atlas from the 1950s that I found in the trunk of one of my dad's cars.  It's not in the best of shape, but I wouldn't take a million for it.  I'd like very much to add to my collection, but I haven't been able to go to any flea markets or first-mondays to see what anyone might have.  For a brief time (where I probably deserved a lot of  :pan: :pan: and probably some  :poke: and  :banghead: too), I was impatient as a grade schooler to see dashed lines where freeways and interstates should have already been.  You know the rest--I filled them in with colored marker or colored pen.   :wow: :-o   Fortunately, that phase didn't last long.  I regretfully parted with those but made sure it didn't happen again.

I have a camera again, it's no one's SLR or anything, but hopefully I can hang onto it and it'll be good to me.  I am fortunate that once all the ducks are in a row, I'm in an area (Dallas/Fort Worth) where lots of road activity is going on, so I can be out every so often getting good shots.  My work schedule works against me for now--I work nights--so I can't be up all day running the roads.

I must add--it's SO nice to be among fellow road enthusiasts without the non-roads crowd trying to rain on the parade of bandwidth.

My name is John, and I'm a road fan.

Glad to have you on the forum, welcome!

I have a number of Rand McNally atlases from the 50s-80s with the State Farm cover.

First Monday is a great event, I scored about 40 fold maps when I went there in 2009. Two others that went there found highway shields for cheap and I picked up a few license plates including a red-dye NC tag (one I wanted bad at that time for my collection). Would love to get back there again!

I've only been in Texas 5 years so my map collection doesn't look as good as my MN map collection, though I love the map library at UT.

I've been in Texas all my life! :D But my Texas map collection isn't that great..
Welcome to the forum, from another Texan! Hope you enjoy it!
