I think it's the concrete expanding because of the heat.

You're probably right given the pattern it is buckling up in given a second look.  Geeze how hot did it get out there in Nebraska to cause that?

This tends to be a big issue in PA, where it's quite common.

The other states I'm familiar with, NJ & DE, don't seem to have such issues. I guess it's all in how the road was built originally!
