Is Alt US 98 a state route or county route? At Daphne, AL the junction assemblies say ALT 98, but once you turn it becomes CR 98. NB 98 at Barnwell, it's posted only as CR 98. I was going to drive this on my recent trip, but was trying to beat the storms so decided to do it another time.

I accept and respect your identity as long as it's not dumb shit like "identifying as a vaccinated attack helicopter".

It's county maintained.

That's what I suspected, but wanted to confirm.

BTW: if you like old/re-purposed gas stations, there are several along CR 98 in Daphne. I only drove 3-4 blocks but saw at least 3.

The only place it is signed as a US route is at the north end (was that still there on your trip?). There were two shields left on it in Fairhope by 2006, but I am not sure those are still there. County 98 shields have been posted along the route since I first drove a part of it in 1999.

Yes, those shields were still there as of Tuesday ;)

But there is no "JCT" assembly (something I noticed a lot in FL & AL): just signs at the intersections.
