I am really not surprised to see O'ahu's H1 freeway listed as the second worst in the nation.  Every time I'm on-island, traffic is pretty much at a stand-still between the H201/HI-78 interchange (MM-19) all the way down to the Punahou St interchange (MM-23).  There's really nothing that can be done here unless a big dig is engineered, which wouldn't be worth the money.  At least it's Hawaii, so you've got a great backdrop of the Koolau's to view whilst waiting in traffic.   :spin:

For sure.  The article limited its comments to the Lunalilo Freeway part of H-1, which is east of mm 19.  West of there, H-1 has a different name, is newer and usually wider, and is less congested in non-rush hours.

QuoteWhy is Interstate 80 in New Jersey not on this list?  Anyone who's experienced this rush hour delight knows the injustice here.  Or for that matter, why is Interstate 78 left off?

Because both are in the NYC area and neither one takes a taco to the Cross Bronx.  The article itself notes they only looked at the worst bottleneck in each metropolitan area.

Oh, I gotcha, I thought it was just in general.

Though, that doesn't explain why I-40 (East side) beats I-65 (North side) here in Nashville according to the article.

No it doesn't.  But it's already been noted earlier in the thread that their methodology is at least partially flawed.

Commuter Buzz: "You leave the house at 5:40 [a.m.], and you're still hitting traffic?'' says Jay McQuaide. "The last year for me, commuting between Andover and Boston, is the worst it's ever been, much worse than the Big Dig construction years.''

I'd like to know how Jay (a reporter for WBZ radio) does the Andover-to-Boston commute on the SE Expressway, which goes nowhere near Andover (a bedroom town NORTH of Boston).

That's why he has to leave the house at 5:40 a.m. :P

I agree with I-75 in Cincinnati and Dayton being on the list.  But, with Cincinnati, the worst spot has to be southbound near downtown, and northbound from I-275 in KY to the bridge.  As far as I-75 in Dayton, that should get better once the re-construction of the OH 4 interchange (aka "Malfunction Junction") is complete.  That should reduce the number of accidents in that area.
