Greetings from the road.  I'm headed down to northern California to take pictures of button copy signs and try to get some pictures from the original Siskiyou summit and parts of the old abandoned Pacific Highway.  Tonight I managed to capture a few signs that were already on here, plus a nice neon.  See if you can recognize the signs:

plus one more, from Cottage Grove

Recognize the third assembly from Corvalis. We stumbled across that one and photographed it in 2006.

Good stuff.  One of the only two Oregon eagle state route shields and the infamous US 99W in Corvallis.

I wish I'd photographed the old US 99W that was posted on Western Ave just south of that sign in Corvallis while it was still up in the late '80's.  Besides being a US 99W holdover, it was state-named.  I did take a photo of a state-named US 20 and eagle-shield 34 and 99W from downtown, but sadly that picture is long gone.  It just never occurred to me back then that I should be photographing those old shields!

I like to drive the old Siskiyou Highway whenever I can, now OR 273, although last time I was there only one of the two OR 273 shields were still up.  It's also cool to take old 99 from the Klamath River south to Yreka, a canyon routing that reminds me a lot of old US 97 through the Yakima River Canyon up in Washington.

great stuff!

I wonder how old that US-99W shield is.  officially, the route was decommissioned in 1969, but that is honeycomb high intensity sheeting, which was put on the market in 1971 I believe.

I had thought it was an accurate remnant, but given that gap, it might be a very, very old error.

what shields exist under the top patch?  if it is just a replacement for a US-99 on the right, why patch the left two?

I'd love to see what's under the patch, too.  The sign does appear to be very modern, but what is the deal with that patch?  What terrible sins does it cover up?
