Yesterday I received a "toll by tag" bill for $.80 from North Carolina. ( and I could have saved $.28 if I had the transponder.) The picture was supposedly of my Florida tag going thru the toll facility on NC 147 .  They had my tag number right but the name was some kind of dyslexic nightmare.   I have not been in the Raleigh-Durham area in over 20 years and the picture showed some sort of Flatbed truck.  ( I drive a Hyundai.)

I guess they were accurate when the reason given for changing Florida's tags is so they can more easily be read by electronic tolling.

Anyone else get a toll bill or red light ticket that was not theirs?

My sister got a bill ($1.50 or so) in the mail from someone who used the ICC in Maryland last year. She called the number on the bill and from what I recall, her license plate number was close to that of the actual driver's. They rescinded it for her and billed the correct person.

My former boss got a red-light ticket in DC for a Ford pickup. She drove a Jaguar X-Type at the time. I remember she was fighting it, but I do not know what became of the matter.

I would ignore it but I can see getting some kind of warrant issued for a suspended license for non-payment of toll ticket... and then the bureaucratic mess that would ensue

I sold a car 2 months ago.  I had torn off the toll tag (and told them to stick it) and then I got this bill. The idiot I talked to insisted I owed the bill even though I sold the car and told the DMV I sold it. She was so stupid & clueless and I wasted an hour of my life on the call.  Next day I call back with all documentation which this other person didn't even need she just took it off immediately.   If you don't get good service just hang up and call back.

My mom once got charged for crossing a toll bridge in NY/NJ one time.  Somebody had somehow duplicated our EZ-Pass transponder ID #.  Had to fight a good amount to get it off. The crazy thing is that the transponder was for our old car that we didn't take on any major trips since it major repairs and we had never used that particular transponder (we had two and we only used the other one on our primary car).  Was a pain to get that taken off and refunded our money.
